How 'bout our boys & girls in the 3rd ID! I served two of my four years in that awesome division. They have had a very rich history since WWI. "Rock of the Marne."

    They've performed spectacularly so far.

I'm a little concerned about their current situation though. 300 miles deep in Iraq, with a huge exposed flank. Now they are preparing to take on Saddam's RG Medina division near Karbala. I'm sure that they will continue to do very well, but they could probably use some backup way out there.

Your guys definitely seem to be the point of the spear in this war. This will no doubt be another illustrious episode for them to add to their unit's history.

I'm praying for them to come through it successfully with minimal casulties.

I concurr that they are doing great so far. About that exposed flank: the coalition may be able to cover it from the air.

The 3rd ID (Audie Murphy's unit when he earned the Medal of Honor) has done great so far. I'm just a bit concerned that they only have light Airborne support on the ground (I'm a former trooper of the 101st Airborne, so I well understand those limitations).

If I were in charge of such things, I would have had at least 3 heavy divisions (Armor, Cavalry, or Mech Infantry) for the assault on Baghdad. I'll feel a lot better when the 4th ID is on the ground and ready to go.

I'll feel better too. What's funny about this is that after I left Germany, I was stationed in Ft. Carson Colorado........ in the 4th ID  So both my old units are going to be there. I will say, though, that the 3rd has always been in a higher state of readiness that the 4th at least in recent decades.

Do you know who else was in the 3rd? Elvis Presley! He was in the 1/15 same as Audie Murphy. I was in 1/64 armor which was in the same Kaserne(base) as the 1/15 infantry in Kitzingen, Germany.

I'm very proud of the way our soldiers are fighting. Also, I was watching some of the Iraqi's on TV as the people were waving and opening up to us and our allies. Many were very thankful, although fearful and wary at times. It was real touching. Reguardless of someones view on the war, I really long for the Iraqi's to be free.

I am thankful for the help of the British, Aussie's, and all the other countries that are with us. Spain, Poland, and the rest of eastern Europe.....the list goes on.
