$250,000 in student debt after 13 years...

    Well...it's not quite that bad in my situation. I didn't get my B.A. until I was 35...almost 36. And I just got my M.S. in 2019. I'm 52 now. So, it's more like 5 years of schooling for about 25 years of payments. :) and they have been in deferral for the past several years - first because of getting my Master's and then two years of COVID deferral, so there is always all of that.

    But yes, college used to be something an average person could budget for and pay off rather quickly. - now, it's a mortgage.

    Yes - in the 90s I once wrote a story (for Uni. writing class) about student debt, a sporadic job, slum apartment and a wife 8 months pregnant - "a mortgage, but where is my house?"
    Glad to hear it. I can understand that. I didn't go back to school till my 40s. I was fortunate - I was working and could (and did) pay as I went. A lot cheaper here, then - 80s.
