Employment in a law-related field is definitely helpful. He has the knowledge of the law but it remains to be seen if he has the needed soft skills. As a student in Social Work in my early-to-mid 20s (older than many of my fellow students who started at 18), I got a lot of negative commentary on my age, even though age isn't really relevant to the practice of social work. I could see a similar issue with law, where people allow Park to clerk but don't want to hire him to try cases because they believe he lacks the emotional intelligence for the job (whether or not that is really true.)

Could that be said for all new lawyers in their 20s?

 

Definitely. Most new lawyers are 25/26 and still have lots to learn. At the same time, maybe having 7 years on-the-job training will give Park an edge when others catch up to him.
