Touro Law’s New FlexTime JD Program: Go to class on Sundays, finish the rest of the coursework on your own time.
    https://collive.com/touro-laws-new-flextime-jd-program-go-to-class-on-sundays-finish-the-rest-of-the-coursework-on-your-own-time/

“Touro’s FlexTime JD Program is the only accredited law degree program of its kind requiring in person attendance exclusively on Sundays while the remainder of coursework can be completed throughout the week on a student’s own schedule. The flexible program is unique and provides a supportive environment for learning the law. The program, which has received American Bar Association (ABA) and New York State Education Department approval, maintains a rigorous course of study that will prepare you for the realities of law practice using the latest in evidence-based teaching and learning tools. Offering the lowest in-person class attendance requirement of any JD program in New York, graduates earn their degrees in only four years and are eligible to sit for the New York State Bar Exam.”

Colleges and universities CAN BE innovative when they choose to be.

Well, let's see. Touro gets $1,935.00 per hour and I couldn't find on the website how many hours they demand so going with, say, 82 that's $158,000 for tuition alone. Call it 160 large total sticker price. Touro ranks as a 4th tier school, 168 out of 196 for USNWR. I don't put much faith in law school rankings but it's pretty unlikely a Touro grad is going to get a Big Law job paying $160,000 a year.

Don't, as in DO NOT, take a J.D. from this school unless your name is something like Chatsworth Osborne III and Grampers is paying the freight.

And you can't get into one of the "more competitive" schools in New York.

Extra credit if you remember who Chatsworth Osborne, Jr. was.

Ouch. Law School Transparency lists Touro's employment score as 68.4% and total debt of $344,000. 20 odd percent pay full freight but 40% receive a "discount".

Debt service for the whole cost runs about $4,000/ month for 10 years. That's AFTER TAX dollars, folks.

Average first year salary is $58,000 in PRE TAX dollars. Yeah, stay away.

LST also says Touro's 1L enrollment has been trending down for the last several years. No wonder the school decided to get all "innovative". The monument carvers are already sharpening their tools.

Is $160K really so much to pay to become who you want to be? Who you will be for the rest of your life?

I paid almost $100K (not adjusted for inflation) to become who I am, and I've gotten an amazing return on that--both in terms of financial gains and (more importantly) my professional identity. Could it have been done less expensively? Not back then with so few options.

I'm not suggesting this is a good option for anyone in particular. I'm not even commenting on this school/program at all. I just think it's helpful to take the long view--professionally, personally, and financially. YOLO, y'know?

Played by the sublime Steve Franken, who went on to play many such types in guest rolls on TV for years.

Paula and I have the complete series, "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." I love Maynard G Krebs, the prototypical beatnik, played by a pre-Gilligan Bob Denver. And I really loved Sheila James, who played Zelda. Amy Fowler Farrah long before The Big Bang Theory.

$160,000 is just tuition. There's also the opportunity cost. Just look at the total debt compared to the income. It's absurd. It's abusive.

Oh, and "The 'G' stands for Clarence."

I don't think so. "Objection, Your Honor. Defense Counsel is making this up." :)

"The "G" in Maynard G. Krebs stands for Walter, Maynard's aunt. Maynard explained that the "G" is because his mother "didn't spell too good"." - Quora

wiki: Maynard Gwalter Krebs is the "beatnik" sidekick of the title character in the U.S. television sitcom The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, which aired on CBS from 1959 to 1963.[

Around 1960, Maynard was one of my role models. I was 17. Having first read "On the Road" by Kerouac and other Beat works - Ginsberg etc. I was convinced I'd found my place in the world. (I was wrong, of course - but you couldn't tell me any more at 17 than you can at 81.) Being a kindred spirit with Maynard offered me a harmless, no-drugs fantasy - beard, sandals and all. My parents had fits! :)

Not a lot of "Canadian content" in Dobie Gillis.

No - but the show managed to do pretty darn well - both sides of the border - without it. As loved here as it was there. No poutine, back bacon, maple syrup, quahogs, Screech or soupe-aux-pois needed. :)
