Is it acceptable for members to refer to “people of color,” Jews, and Muslims in a similar regard?

I've been around here 17 years and I didn't think it was acceptable to mention the colour of, or attribute a faith to, anyone's ass (or other skin area) here, same race or faith as theirs, or different. If it IS acceptable, let me know and I'll haul my sad, narrow white ass out of here, permanently!

This low-end remark, especially from a University Professor, is not a good sign, no matter what the disagreement.

What I should admit is - I, too, think the guy Stanislav said that to, was wrong as hell. If Stan had just said something like that -- well, OK. The Ukraine hot-button got pushed -- and if you do that to a Ukrainian-born person --- you're asking for trouble. It is what it is - heat of the moment. I've done and said things I'm not proud of under those conditions. I think we all have.

Everybody'll live. Yeah it was bad. So were the conditions. Nigerians say "Na condition wey make crayfish bend." Let's not bend the crayfish again - and let's all move on.

We're reluctant to be the speech police, so we tend only to consider moderation of comments that get reported, preferring simply to close threads that have decayed into quarrels.

If I understand you correctly: you'll be “reluctant to be the speech police” if members respond in a similar way to “people of color,” people who identify as LGBTIQA+, Jews, Muslims, and Palestinians, correct?

Yes. We have white supremacists, sexists, homophobes, and misogynists here.

I'll simply reiterate that anyone who wants to make sure moderators review a post should report it -- as those who actually participate in this community on a regular basis well know.

Do you have quotes, screenshots, or links to their posts?

On the other hand, I can provide multiple examples of bigotry towards Christians and “white people” in this community.

    Please stop this.

I don't like where it's going. Sounds like "Git th' rope," to me. If you're riding your charger to the defence of "white people" in this arena, just leave me out of it. I don't need your "assistance." Or to hear about it.

Chris, if you MUST do "good" - try helping poor people, work a few hours a week at a food bank, soup kitchen etc. Slip a few bucks to a medical - or homeless charity maybe -- and, as Jesus advised, don't tell anyone. There are lots of opportunities to help right wrongs, that don't involve finger-pointing and sitting in judgement. .... Oh, I should talk - I've fallen into those before. Avoid being like me. At all costs.

    But stop. Now, please.

    Why specifically?

Why would you think Jesus advised that?

I forgive you for “finger-pointing and sitting in judgement” of me.

I could be wrong, but isn't Stanislav white?

This kind of comment is condescending and rude. He doesn't require your forgiveness. I doubt he wants it. And it implies a trespass that, frankly, didn't occur.

I have no say in how this board is run; I'm just a member of its community. But in that very limited role, I ask that you stop this.

Why is it relevant to my question? Do you have an answer?

By what standard of absolute morality do you appeal to claim that a “trespass” didn't occur?

I forgive you for being “condescending and rude” to me.
