    Agenda47: The American Academy
    November 1, 2023.

Under the plan I’m announcing today, we will take the billions and billions of dollars that we will collect by taxing, fining, and suing excessively large private university endowments, and we will then use that money to endow a new institution called the American Academy.

Its mission will be to make a truly world-class education available to every American, free of charge, and do it without adding a single dime to the federal debt. This institution will gather an entire universe of the highest quality educational content, covering the full spectrum of human knowledge and skills, and make that material available to every American citizen online for free.

Whether you want lectures or an ancient history or an introduction to financial accounting, or training in a skilled trade, the goal will be to deliver it and get it done properly, using study groups, mentors, industry partnerships, and the latest breakthrough in computing. This will be a truly top-tier education option for the people.

It will be strictly non-political, and there will be no wokeness or jihadism allowed—none of that's going to be allowed.

Most importantly, the American Academy will compete directly with the existing and very costly four-year university system by granting students degree credentials that the U.S. government and all federal contractors will henceforth recognize. The Academy will award the full and complete equivalent of a bachelor's degree.

In addition to help the 40 million Americans who have some college education but no degree, the American Academy will grant credit for past coursework at legacy institutions and give you the chance to complete your education at the American Academy for free and much more quickly than is now possible or available.”

Soooo, not an accredited university offering actual bachelor's degrees? Sounds like this is basically Trump University 2.0.

Yes. Except this time, the money doesn't wind up in Trump's personal pocket. From Trump, no one should expect anything much different. If he's elected (shudder) and gets this going (not easy), he says the Government will recognize the "degrees" - and so will all Federal contractors. Yeah, once in office he and his'n might be able to make them recognize these credentials. I'm guessing hard-core Trumplicans in the private sector -- might. Maybe there'd even be a taxpayer-financed reward system for hiring these "grads."

If he were elected (again, shudder) this whole thing would probably die the moment he was out of office.

Basically, A Pre-Election "Potemkin University." Promises Promises.

I think the idea is not THAT bad. However, Trump is saying so many stupid things... it was likely just a fluke!!

So the most prominent Republican wants to steal money from university endowments to build a federally run replacement for higher education? The party of small government strikes again!

Pick one. It's one thing to say that there will be diverse opinions in curricula that involve social issues, it's another to single out particular ones for exception (even ones I may not personally favor).

Right. It's not. But Trump IS. I'd like to know how this thing is going to operate with no tuition revenue and "without adding a dime to the federal debt." Who pays?

This basically good idea, except for the taxing fining and suing part, from a man who had a CASINO that went broke. How the hell does THAT happen - they're a license to steal? What kind of financial catastrophe could happen with TRUMP and an online mega-university? I'm getting tired-out from all this shuddering, It's ....taxing.

I woke up and saw the taxing, fining, suing, etc. of University endowments. Yeah, that's gonna fly. NOT. Next, maybe he'll tax, fine and sue McDonald's Burger King, Frito-Lay an' them and build a state-of-the-art chain of cost-free Eating Disorder Clinics. And give up bedtime cheeseburgers.

That one word “equivalent” says it all.

Because the entire casino industry in Atlantic City collapsed as local (usually tribal) casinos were allowed to open, eliminating their monopoly (pun intended). Several casinos went under, and the entire Atlantic City casino industry remains crippled. And the city remains as crappy as it was before legalized gambling was introduced in the 1970s.

Trump isn't blame-free in this--he used junk bonds to finance his casino despite promising not to. As a result, when he folded his operation, bondholders got killed and he walked away from the debt. Still, an Atlantic City casino going under was a rather normal thing.

This is just some position paper written by a staffer to cover an area he doesn't discuss in his blustery speeches. It has no meaning; it will not happen. I seriously doubt Trump's ever read it; it's probably not even his idea.

It seems, that quite often, a high-crime district quickly grows up and flourishes around a casino.

There was a plan to open a licensed casino in our downtown area. One of the main objections was that crime would increase in the area. The casino was shelved, but crime in our derelict core is worse than ever, even without it. Crappy cities remain crappy cities, with or without casinos - but a casino usually increases the crappiness quotient. Casinos take poor people who can't control themselves and make them desperate.

Our Provincial Government is so intent on gambling revenue, you can now log on to Government-run online gambling - and end up losing your house from the comfort of your house. And that happens. I've known of people to have losses of over half a million dollars to these legal outfits, both online and in-person.

Wrong, Rich - and I'm sorry to have to say that. It's real - at least in the minds of DJT and his Disciples.
Here is a video recording of Trump talking about the American Academy. There are a couple more.

Four articles here, from pretty credible sources, I'd say.:

    Nah - not a staffer's pipe-dream. I wish it was.

Atlantic City was the opposite. Because it had fallen on very hard times as a vacation destination, the high-crime district was already surrounding the Boardwalk when gaming came in. Sadly, it did not change afterwards. Thus, when gaming collapsed, Atlantic City was left right where it always was.

It's B.S. Although, you're right, I did underestimate it without looking. (I find this stuff odious.) But nothing will come of it; it's campaign fluff.

True words, all. And I think what I said earlier kinda echoes this:
Hamilton ON and Atlantic City NJ. Two of a kind. At least both still have a University.
