About time they changed the name. They have DEAC and Regional Accreditation (plus some sort of official ecclesiastical recognition for the Catechetical Diploma).

Hahahaha! I don't know much about religious institutions. But in the professional world, any credential with "ONLINE" or "DISTANCE LEARNING" is treated as inferior. The "International" would change dramatically in the credential.

I thought they were in the still-ruralish part of Loudoun County, Virginia, but like American Public/Military University, they moved to nearby Charles Town, WV, presumably to be in HLC territory rather than SACS back when state lines still mattered.

They were located in Winchester, Virginia; in 2015 was moved to Charlestown, WV...just crossed the border for HLC accreditation purposes. Besides, Charlestown, WV needs more Jesus because of the casino. :D

Yep. Lotta folks in thar, prayin' t' Him. 'Specially the pore 'uns, that puts the rent an' grocery money on th' table. Bin thar. Seen that. Them pore folks is real fierce at prayin'. Nothin' like 'em. An' if'n they lose -- it ain't purty. It's turrible. Breaks muh heart.

"Jesus is th' answer? Mebbe He is, 'specially in Charlestown. Cain't hurt t'try.

"Seems t'me, more folks is prayin' in that thar Casino than they is in Church. 'Specially them pore folks, what cain't afford t'be thar in the first place. 'T'ain't right. I'd shore like it if Jesus could do sump'n for them pore folks - mebbe start by overturnin' a few tables at the Casino. I heard tell He's very good at that, when it comes t' bad people, like them that takes money from pore folks that ain't got none t'spare."

The praying part may be true, but I expect a lot more of the people in the casino in Charles Town are from D.C. and its suburbs than are local, given that it's only an hour or two away.

I'm from southern Appalachia. I read this, and your other post, in the vernacular and understood everything. :emoji_joy:

I'm from Southern Ontario, Canada - and England, before that. And thank you for the compliment. I was hoping to get at least something right! Now, I'm working on Nigerian Pidgin -- "E no be so easy." :)

Overall a good change and long overdue. However, I'm generally skeptical of universities with "International" in their name, many have been not great in the past, so I'm not sure that part was the best choice.

I agree, but Catholic International University sounds better than Catholic Distance University. Here are some of the universities with International names.
    - Florida International University is a great school...but it sounds better with the University of Southern Florida.
    - Alliant International University
    - Trident University International (Touro University International, TUI University, Trident University International, Trident at American InterContential University, what's next?)
    - Texas A&M International University
    - Hope International University
    - International Technological University
    - Hult International Business School
    - Columbia International University
    - Dallas International University
    - Webber International University
    - Virginia International University

Although they changed their name to "Fairfax University of America", which strikes me as a serious downgrade.

I agree. Also their website and Wikipedia both claim ACICS accreditation but didn't they shut down in 2022?

Pretty much. But some schools, including "Fairfax University of America" are stretching things till the last possible moment:

"For example, the University of North America, based in Fairfax, Virginia, shows on its website under “ACCREDITATION & CERTIFICATION” the ACICS symbol. The school also indicates on its website that students can apply today for bachelors degree programs in business administration and information technology, as well as associates degree, masters degree, and shorter-term programs. Bachelors degree programs at many schools take four years, and very few are started and completed in ten months. Neither are most associates or masters programs, which normally take two years."

    From here: https://www.republicreport.org/2023/with-acics-closing-soon-whats-going-on-with-its-remaining-schools/

It's my understanding that ACICS will soon disappear. I believe there's a temporary life-support from DOE that allows only a couple more months for the remaining schools, like Fairfax / U. of North America to get new accreditation. 52 former ACICS schools are now accredited by ACCSC. That agency has problems, with around 50 schools on "Heightened cash monitoring." ACCSC just scraped by in its last NACIQI review, when recommendation was made to the DOE to extend ACCSC's approval for three years before next review, instead of the usual five years. Some members wanted ONE year.

    Story here: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2021/07/28/committee-recommends-three-year-renewal-profit-accreditor

My take: Another one might bite the dust...
