This was mentioned a couple of days ago on the sister forum, I didn't see it mentioned here, so I'll link you all to it, not sure if it's for everyone, but should be shared and you can decide, It should be on-par with Coursera's offerings : https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-edX-Verizon-Skill-Forward

Please also read both of my posts as it mentions these are not ACE recommended for credit and even Slickdeal has this. edx is going through a massive change (layoffs - a thousand people) and they're most likely using this to offset the marketing, sales, strategy that went out the window with the layoff...

    Thanks for sharing this.

Depending on what the actual certs are, this could be a nice replacement for the American Dream Academy.

Nope. Absolutely not. I went to the page - they want all my personal info before I can get any idea of course content. e.g. - there's a coding course. I'd like to know what language(s) please. BEFORE I give them any info.

It doesn't smell righteous - at all.

Thanks for sharing. I like some of EdX class, but don't want to pay for it. Now, it is a perfect time to collect some CPE's for my CISSP and PMP.

I earned my PDUs for my PMP through PMI. For a hundred bucks you can earn all the PDUs you need to renew for 3 years.

I've considered getting my CISSP in the future but I hear it is quite the journey.

It depends your background. PMP has it own challenges, especially focusing broad of project management in different industries. While CISSP is focusing on technology management, lot of people with technical background failed the exam miserable because the exam eliminates the technical approach. For example, in CISSP would ask how do you take necessary approach to secure a server in well guard data center. All of the answer choices would be the answer, but CISSP is looking for a big picture. Most of technical exam taker would choose to deploy a firewall, proxy server, etc. But the answer would be policies, standards and regulatory compliances, etc.

Well, wow. Something to jump into now that American Dream Academy is closing down soon.

For those that have signed up, could you please list which exact certificates are being offered, and from which schools?

Wow, there are so many options of courses, professional certs from various institutions including HarvardX. Most of the programs are just two/three courses, you'll come to a few that have about 5-9 courses and they range in months of completion too. I found a program from HarvardX for Data Science, it's 1.5 years long, 9 courses in total! FREE, if you take the courses individually, it's $149 each, so it'll be $1341 USD for this professional cert. Found another cert I kind of want, it's the only advanced cert I am interested in, the rest are all either intro or intermediate level, it's 3 courses, each course is a whopping $450... decisions, decisions, decisions. I think I need to decide on which ones to get and in which order, so I can actually finish within the year if I cram them in the correct order...

Yep. Absolutely. But not for anyone outside the U.S., again.

Unfortunately, the edX certs don't carry ACE credit. Many of the TADA certificates do.

Oh crap! NYIF Stock Trading Professional Cert has only two courses, I completed the first course, but the program disappeared as the second course is 'rescheduled' or something, now I'm half way done, it doesn't indicate when the next course is, I should have added it when I had the chance... and there is no chance to start that second course now!! Hmm, I also finished the ISCEA Certified Supply Chain Analyst (CSCA) Pro Cert in less than a day, going through the entire thing at 1.5x, but there is a final exam that doesn't start until mid December! The good thing is, you get the EDX Pro Cert & a CSCA Cert!

NYIF Program ad lists 8 modules. Doesn't say anything about two courses. How many modules did you complete? Whole course is listed as 9 hours. Can't see why they'd split a short course like that into two. There's only one exam.

Ad says you can reach Mr. Tuchman and Mr. Green (instructors) via email. Have a look. Maybe there's something here that will help? https://www.nyif.com/stock-trading-professional-certificate-online.html

It's weird, they've split the course into two for edx, Stock Trading Professional Certificate | edX ... edx certs cost more and are very similar to Coursera, for those not into college credits but more into certs/experience, I would get more edX certs than coursera...

The course costs $299 direct from NYIF. Assuming they (Edx) have it - or will have it complete again - does it cost less from Edx? Free, maybe? Just curious.

Yes, it's free for the entire year, membership ends October 31, 2024... technically more than a year, but they offered it near the middle of the month... This is much better than the Coursera options if you're not looking for the ACE/College credit. Very similar system, each of the certs I want to get are at least $299 or higher, I don't look at the course as a single item, I like to look at the various packaged programs they offer...

Right, I see what Edx did here. they split the 8 modules into 2 courses - first one is 3 modules, second is 5. Good thing you can get it for free. Regular price of the 2-course bundle is around $450 at least. 50% over NYIF's price.

"Timeo Edx et dona ferentes." * :)

"I fear Edx, even bearing gifts." It was "Timeo Danaos" (Greeks) in Virgil's Aeneid. Learned in Latin class, 1959-60.
    Like everything else -- there's a Wiki entry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beware_of_Greeks_bearing_gifts

I registered for the Verizon Skill Forward program and got an email that I needed to study at least 30 minutes within the first 30 days of completing registration.

Anyone get an email to confirm or find a place to check if they've fulfilled this requirement?
