For all master's students for an initial 3-year "experimental" period, starting Summer 2023. They do have fully online master's programs, so it's possible to graduate debt-free. https://brite.edu/

I'm not affiliated with Brite in any way.

This looks like an interesting program. I may apply to see if they would accept me or not. Even though I am a religious skeptic and freethinker, I've thought about interfaith studies and this school seems to cater to diverse religious backgrounds. It still seems to be correlated more to Christianity though as most theological programs are. It's definitely something to take a look at. I may be able to transfer some credits from my Master of Religious Studies from Nations University even though the degree was non-accredited at the time I received it which is why I don't include them on my academic profile. I doubt they would accept any of those credits though but you never know.

I'm really tempted to apply to the Brite program, but I don't think my illness makes me a fit for it. I need something self-paced. I'm familiar with Nations University and would love to do their (self-paced) Master of Theological Studies program, but I can't afford the tuition, as super reasonable as it is. So, I'm trying to put together a self-study program using syllabi and course materials from different schools. I'm pretty much homebound, so I need something to keep me busy and my mind active. :)

Whenever free/cheap theological studies come up, I keep thinking of Holy Transfiguration College (Agora University): https://htc.agora.ac/master-of-theological-studies/

While I have no affiliation (neither as a student nor as an instructor), HTC has caught and continues to hold my attention as they offer a unique MTS program from an Oriental Orthodox perspective. That's a hard thing to find in the world. And if you're outside of the Western world, tuition is only 900 USD for the two-year degree. That's tough to beat.

    Hello!

Well, there ARE cheaper programs out there. But you normally would not want to get involved with them... there is an infamous organisation accredited in Gambia, for example, and I would not enrol there for a million!!

    Best regards,

There are examples of freebies from US institutions as well, if you live in some poorer nations, you can get the NationsU degrees free. It's good that there are support systems in place for those who need/want the education, hopefully there would be more of these... if it's in something that's more applied or a different area of studies, I'm all up for it too! Hopefully more partnerships, or bursary/scholarships are available for many more students to come from all institutions...

I remember that one. He's banned in about 18 countries. You can probably get a BT (Bachelor of Terrorism) or MB (Master of Bombing) from that school. May Allah give THAT dude a smack in the head to smarten him up...

Great school if you're looking for a BUICC - not the car, (Buick) but "Bachelor of Unindicted Co-Conspiracy."

My apologies. I intended no irreverence. That should be "May Allah, SWT give that dude etc."

SWT stands for the Arabic words, "Subhanahu wa ta'ala." This phrase translates as "Glory to Him, the Exalted" or "Glorious and Exalted Is He." It should follow His name when written. https://www.learnreligions.com/islamic-abbreviation-swt-2004291

You may do as you please, of course, but as someone who is not a Muslim I feel no obligation whatsoever to comply with all their strictures when referring to important entities, nor do I believe that's either irreverent or disrespectful of me.

I'm fine with that, Steve. Each of us should do as they feel, in these circumstances. I do this not out of religion - that's something I do not have going for me. I do it because I'm an admittedly overzealous nitpicker, with language and its forms. When I write something, I like it to be culturally correct, i.e. I like to sound more familiar with other cultures than I really am. Impostor syndrome. Not wishing to offend? Yes, that too, but it's not paramount. In this case, likely an unnecessary precaution - but I said I was overzealous, didn't I? :)

You're more than OK in my book. You do you. I do me. :)

And my wording : "It should be... etc." Straight from the book. Seemed adequate - I wasn't looking at nuances. I should have been, because yes, it does sound like a directive - and coming from me, that is MOST inappropriate.

"Father, I have sinned. I issued a directive. It has been 58 years since my last confession...." :) We OK?

Does Brite have their catalog available anywhere online? I wonder what courses they offer.

Their Student Handbook is the catalog: https://brite.edu/handbooks

After taking some time to think about it, I've decided that the full tuition and fees scholarship at Brite is too good an opportunity to pass up. I called Admissions to see if, by chance, they granted application fee waivers to veterans and a very nice lady told me that the $75 fee was actually for a background check and the money doesn't go to the school (it's what the background check service charges them). Not a huge problem, as the application deadline for the Spring semester is a month away. While getting my application together I can do some online tutoring to earn the fee.

I realized, after the fact, that this sounded like I was sure I would get in and that's not the case. I should have said that the chance of getting the full tuition and fees scholarship at Brite is too good an opportunity to pass up.

When I talked to someone at Brite today, they emphasized that the school is liberal and that anyone who wants to pursue theological education was welcome to apply and attend. I was told that the school is welcoming to people from different faiths, or even no faith, and also welcoming to the LGBTQI+ community. I don't have a problem with any of it. I don't believe in pushing my beliefs onto other people and as long as I'm given that same respect and courtesy I'm good.

That’s good to hear especially since I am part of both the LGBTQI and free-thought communities. I don’t want to preach to or indoctrinate anyone but could see myself serving in some interfaith or secular spiritual capacities. This school seems like a great option to prepare for work in those area.
