Report from the Accrediting Commission April 22, 2023

    Link: https://deac.org/UploadedDocuments/Public-Notices/Accreditation-Actions/042123_AC_meeting_report.pdf

Voluntary Withdrawal from Accreditation On April 12, 2023 the following institution notified DEAC that it will teach out its students and cease operation on May 1, 2024. Therefore, the institution will voluntarily withdraw from accreditation, effective May 1, 2024. The institution remains accredited during the teach-out period.

Wright Graduate University for the Realization of Human Potential - Founded 2008

I am sure that we're all going to miss the opportunity to attend a Doctor of Education in Tranformational Leadership (such a rare degree in the U.S. higher education space) for the low cost of around $132,000 USD.

    They realized their potential.

This tuition includes doing the prerequisite master's degree (priced separately at nearly $50K).

The tuition they charge is a bit unusual for a DEAC-accredited school. I wonder where they're going?

I thought they were just "leaving the building," period. Nothing on the Uni site - yet - to indicate anything but "business as usual." Still stating DEAC accreditation and quite a bit of supplementary / programmatic, e.g. IACBE. Nothing yet about the teach-out etc.

If they were in the application stage with another accreditor, I doubt they'd drop what they have until they had final approval. Could they possibly fold what the University does (research and teaching) into their Wright Foundation?

I find the name of this school oddly long lol.

The only other schools I can think of with such a long name are the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (Kingston, Jamaica) and G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sports (St. Catherine, Jamaica).

Most Jamaicans just say Edna Manley (College) and G.C. Foster (College). We may or may not add college.

Not to be confused with Wright State University of Dayton (really Fairborn) Ohio, and Western Governor's University (WGU as Wright Graduate University refers to itself as). Oy vey, if the Wright brothers were only alive to defend their namesake.

It’s an odd name, but I like it better than the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the official name of Virginia Tech. Nether is as bad, IMO, as Georgia College and State University.

I lived in Virginia for 20 years and never heard the full name. No one calls it that...ever. And I never read the full name because no one writes it out...ever. I've always heard it and read it as "Virginia Tech." It's a nice shortcut.

Union Institute and University? Bleh. Here's the history:
    • The Union for Research and Experimentation in Higher Education
    • The Union for Experimenting Colleges and Universities (UECU)
    • The Union Institute
    • Union Institute and University
When it was a real consortium of universities, the Union Graduate School was created as a separate degree-conducting PhD program. But it was the UECU that awarded the degree. It was REALLY common to refer to it as the Union Graduate School, both in speaking and writing. I liked the move to "The Union Institute." It sounded refined. When they added the Vermont stuff and added "& University) to the end....ugh.

I might go back to referring to my degree as being from The Union Institute. If the Hokies can do it, so can the Dougie. (No, I'm not going to demonstrate "the Dougie." That's what YouTube is for.)

"For this relief, much thanks." (Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 1). :)

Hmm, I would have preferred Wright Graduate School, short and simple (I think it may have been taken already too, or it's too close to the Wright State Graduate School). Oh wells, they're going to be gone soon, no need to worry about the lengthy name anymore...

Leland Stanford Junior University. Who wants to attend a "junior university"?

I thought about that one, but I felt many HEIs have four or five words.

It's only "junior" because it hasn't yet realized its potential.

Um - no. I know you're joking, but just in case somebody needs to know, here's the story: The University is named after Leland DeWitt Stanford, 1886-1884, son of industrialist Leland Stanford Sr. and his wife, Jane. Leland Jr. was the Stanfords' only son and died at age 16, of typhoid, on a grand tour of Europe.

His parents named many of their good works after their children - including Leland Stanford Jr. University, named after their son. Story here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leland_Stanford_Jr.
