Find their WIFMs. Align them with the work. Set expectations Support and Guide along the way. Recognize accomplishments and re-redirect poor performance. Drink heavily. (Optional) Repeat (but watch #6)
I have to wonder if it wasn't the employee who wrote that from the employer's perspective. There aren't a lot of people who would be willing to say out loud that going to a concert is more important than attending your own graduation ceremony.
Hopefully, not a lot. But there ARE some. Definitely. Back in my working days, I knew way more than one. Some people could get to concerts - and some couldn't get to anything. But those particular bosses I'm talking about are all dead now ... not that I had anything to do with it, of course.
