Mount Ida College Closing

It's tough sledding for small private colleges. Lots of competition, low donations etc... But.....

Saint Joseph's College of Maine (not College of Saint Joseph) has fewer students than Mt Ida did (1000 vs 1500 on campus).
The difference is that Saint Joe's recognized the strategic opportunity of distance learning many years ago. Currently, Saint Joe's has over 2,500 online students, me included. If not for their online programs, I think our little D3 school would have gone the way of Mt Ida a long time ago.
The school is actually doing well and is undergoing various improvements, expanding some of the programs and has established strategic partnerships with the state of Maine and other important entities. What a difference, and thank goodness for forward looking educators.
