Hey guys I am not a fan of University of Phoenix but If I am going to get free RA credits, I would definitely go for it. I found this post: Liberty Tax Service Tax Class - Get College Credit - Liberty Tax Service, Chippewa Falls Anybody knows about this partnership with Liberty Tax and how it works?
Not sure about this particular program, but from very extensive familiarity with UoP I would have to note that NOTHING is for free from UoP. Something may appear to be no cost on the front end, but they always make it up on the back end.
I bet it works like this.... Hi I'd be VERY surprised if it's not like this.... (1) Take the Liberty Tax courses (2) Get your "free credits" ONLY after you've SIGNED on the dotted line for a very expensive UoP degree program. Johann
University of Phoenix has "corporate articulation agreements" with many companies, including Liberty Tax. If you get training from a participating company (and in the case of Liberty Tax, such training is free), you can apply for UoP credit through PLA. However, while the Liberty Tax course may be free, the UoP PLA evaluation is not. You will pay a flat $150 for the initial submittal and then $75 per credit. The Liberty Tax courses apparently range from 1.5 to 4 credits. So the maximum 4 credits would apparently cost $450.
It also appears that it's 'free' depending on your location. I tried to register for both the online "Basic" course and the online "California" course and both were charging $125. The fine print says TUITION is free, but that books may cost a small fee depending on your market. I'm assuming that's what the cost is, although it doens't state that )or what books are required) anywhere. Still not bad, especially for a CA qualifying, possibly credit-granting course, but not quite free.
I wonder how they put it on a transcript. If it's done as transfer credit it will only be worth something if you attend U of P. Thanks for posting the numbers Caldog.
