I have officially bailed. No more PhD program.

I appreciate all of your input from my last thread, you all have all helped me settle on my decision. I have dropped the PhD program at NCU. I'm not going to jump right into another doctoral program. I'm concentrating my efforts on the business I have recently started and feel really good about the decision. I expect a much better ROI on that. That, combined with teaching Jr. high full time, is plenty of work for now.

I just want to repeat that NCU was great. I know it has drawn criticism from some, but it is undeserved. Thanks again everyone!

What business are you starting up?

It's an advertising company that uses a few tech tricks to create a new niche for small clients. Can't go into any more detail than that publicly until it's more established. I already have a number of clients and have been not giving them the attention I should because of the degree program. So this is a good thing.

Good luck! If you are comfortable with your decision our opinions and beliefs are not important. I wish you the best of luck! I'm sure if and when the time is right you will again embark on the PhD path.

    Good luck!
Maybe you can combine the business with a by-research-only Phd? You could try to find a school where you can research the business concept and maybe end up with a "scientifically proven method" ;) Just as an idea...

That is a really good idea. Maybe a research only degree at one of those English schools? It might be doable because my marketing idea is fairly novel.

Congratulations! ;) It;s good that you can breathe more freely now, and the option of obtaining a doctoral degree later in your life won't go anywhere.

Research-based degrees in Europe tend to be very, very hard. Don't make the mistake and assume they are easier because there is no coursework.

Between a startup and a full time job, I can certainly understand your decision! Good luck!

Everyone said that in 99-2000 and then that bubble burst. LOL

I don't understand this. Are those the start dates, the start of quarters? And is the 13,150 a total cost? I don't know how to translate that into USD either, sorry, ignorance here.

Just type "dollar to pound" into Google. 1 USD = .6484 British Pound. The program would be $20,279.94

Congrats on your enrolment to the Phd in Hard Knocks :) . Setting up biz is an entirely different experience. For me I am the exact opposite. Running my start ups for a decade, feel stoned and decided to get a change.

Best wishes to you, may we see your company in NYSE or NASDAQ soon :)

Thanks for the good wishes. This will be the 4th business I have started. 2 of them I have successfully sold and one died on its own. This new 4th one, while being different in character, presents a lot of tasks that I am already familiar with. So I have had my PhD in hard knocks for a long time, along with my masters in bruises and a bachelors in staying up at night working. :) I agree, it's a tough thing to do. I appreciate your thoughts.

Sounds like a great plan to focus your efforts in an area that may be more fun and provide a greater ROI. Best of luck. By the way, the comment, "I'm not going to jump right into another doctoral program" makes me think you will jump into one at some point...:D

Who was it that mentioned that TUIU is less expensive than NCU? From that comment, I got the idea you might go to TUIU.
