Hi folks, I found these links for the upcoming WNMU schedules. They were posted in the Online Teaching forum, but I thought they might be beneficial to post here. http://www.wnmu.edu:8080/webtm/sched...&campus=online http://www.wnmu.edu:8080/webtm/sched...&campus=online -Matt
Whoops! I just realized when I copied and pasted the links, it didn't copy correctly. http://www.wnmu.edu:8080/webtm/sched.jsp?termCode=201040&campus=online http://www.wnmu.edu:8080/webtm/sched.jsp?termCode=201110&campus=online Here they are! -Matt
Thanks for the links. How would you describe your experiences with WNMU? I see that you are well on your way. From a quick glance at the schedule, it doesn't seem that their course selection is that great in any given semester. Has this hampered your progress?
I'd recommend that Railroad History class being offered this summer. Good class if you are interested in the subject with great readings and a really good instructor.
I would completely agree. Profession Warren is great. I took Railroad History in the summer, Age of Marshall in the fall, and now I'm in History of Crime & Punishment. Each course has been slightly different in regards to requirements, but they're all neat. As for the overall course selection, yes there are limitations, however the cross listed courses allow for some flexibility. Some disciplines have much more to offer. It seems like there are tons of English courses. History & Political Science are somewhat limited, but I have not encountered a list of courses where I couldn't pick one that I was interested in. I'm not sure about the summer, because I'm still trying to figure out how many classes I actually need. If they accept my transfer credits, which I hope they do, I'll only need one more course in the summer. -Matt
HIST 523: Railroad History and POLS 512: Inter-American Relations for Summer 2010. HIST 517: Frontier Law Enforcement and POLS 578: U. S. Conbstitution/History for Fall 2010.
Assuming you're a non-resident: http://www.wnmu.edu/admin/businessaff/Tuition_Fees/2010/Silver%20City%20Campus%20Non-Resident%20Tuition%20and%20Fees%20Fa%2009-Sp%2010.pdf Non-residents get charged the much cheaper resident rates as long as you only take up to 6 credits/semester. So that works out to about $138/credit for graduate courses. If you take more than 6 credits the rates skyrocket though!
They are cheap. I am now interested... Do they have a list of the online courses that they offer or a course rotation guide?
They're not just cheap, but they're actually pretty good courses. I can't say I've ever seen a course rotation list. I've always just looked in the catalog and looked back over past semesters to see what has been offered. I do know from talking to a few instructors that they are trying to build the program and design new courses for it. They just recently added the writing concentration. -Matt
The courses look very interesting and unlike any I have seen at other schools. Crime and Punishment in US history Border Issues in US/Mexican relationship The Drug Wars Frontier Law Enforcement Age of Marshall The downside is that they don't have the typical courses Civil War World War II
Not sure... but don't wait for the book store. They are really slow. The best way to find out is by going to the schedule and clicking the course info link. The schedule hasn't officially been published yet, so that's probably why nothing is displayed right now. -Matt
To update this thread, sometime in June the history & political science concentrations at WNMU posted a course rotation schedule: http://www.wnmu.edu/VirtualCampus/HIST-POLSRotation05-19-2010-OMAISWebsite.pdf , linked from Virtual Campus - Online Programs I'm in Railroad History with Warren this summer and really love the course - material, instructor, and format. I had to drop Indians of the Southwest with Fritz because 6 credits was too much for the summer. Plus, there was much more reading and emphasis on historiography. Since I'm new to history, the bar to entry was too high for my sanity. Hmm. I think I'll post a new discussion topic about HIST/POLS at WNMU since there does seem to be several people with experience there.
So how was Inter-American Relations? I love Warren's format in 523 & 517 so much (especially in contrast to Fritz's discussion-heavy ethnography/historiography focus) and I'm trying to plan out what the other classes I should take for my third, unanswered set of emails to my assigned advisors. (I suppose I'll get a response once I reach that 15 credit mark... right?)
Hi Everyone, I really enjoyed Professor Warren. I took Frontier Law Enforcement from him and had a blast with the research! Thanks, Dan Burrello
