That doesn't sound as impressive as perhaps it was intended. ;)

I went to a friend's undergrad commencement held outdoors, and it rained cats & dogs. We were under a huge tent, but it was still a miserable experience.

There really isn't any other place in the Lowell area that can handle that amount of people, parking, etc. It's actually a very nice facility; I skipped my commencement, but I took my kids to the Tsongas Arena to see Barney the Purple Dinosaur's show. :)

    Hope you weren't armed then...
Not sure I could restrain myself after the fifth round of "I Love You, You Love Me...."

An easy way to eliminate the 'how did you get the degree when you were living in Sweden' problem is to omit the dates of your education from your resume. I do a lot of resume writing for people and I typically leave the date of the degree off the resume unless it is a brand new grad with no work experience.

You will likely have to share the info on an application if you get that far in the process, but let them fall in love with your background and experience first. At least that is my feeling. I just had a client recently who could not get an interview or a call back for anything. (He is in his 50's and his company was recently sold so he was in the job market again after being out of the hunt for a very long time.) I made a few cosmetic changes to his resume, but the biggest tweak of all was to eliminate dates. He just emailed me yesterday to tell me that he has just accepted a great job.

My main reason for doing so is to eliminate any potential age discrimination for my clients and to get them an interview. They can deal with the rest once they get in the door. It would definitely work in your favor to do so. Let them fall in love with you first -- and then close the deal when you meet them.

Hi Mary - This is a fairly transparent technique. Any time I get a resume that has no dates on it I know that someone is trying to hide something. Maybe they get an interview, maybe not. I don't care about how old someone is or how they earned their degree but if they think they're going to slip something past me then they are veryvery wrong. Going into the interview it will be the very first question asked. If they can't give a good answer then they are dead. There are too many job applicants today. If you think you can tweak your resume and get yourself an interview, well, you may get that interview but you may also buy yourself one strike (before I even shake your hand). I am looking for skills, personality and HONESTY.

I graduated in Edinburgh, and visited the campus. It is very impressive.

I am now enrolled in the DBA. It is an excellent program.

How is the DBA going? I have not heard much from any DBA students. Haven't heard of any graduates yet either.

Taking this one step further toward a decision, I am leaning to the Heriot-Watt program because I could complete it in 8 classes and there is no group work. But now I have another concern: AACSB accreditation.

UMass Lowell is AACSB accredited. I don't intend to be teaching business at a b-school somewhere. I intend to apply the knowledge gained in a practical sense, to do business. But I am hearing conflicting reports here about how employers look at AACSB vs. non-AACSB degrees. Heriot-Watt is not AACSB. I'm not sure UMass Lowell would generate much interest in Europe, where I live today, but maybe the AACSB would help? Then again, I'm not sure Heriot-Watt would generate much interest in the US (where I may be in 5 years) and its lack of AACSB might hurt quite a bit.

The way I see it, the HW degree will help me while I am here and if I wind up back in the States 5 or 7 years from now, my experience will speak louder than my degree, so perhaps the UMLowell AACSB angle isn't quite as important.

    Comments?

    Thanks.
