Each year, professional recruiters travel the country—from Harvard to Stanford, UCLA to UNC—and listen to hundreds from the top 1% college professors. Of these, about 1 in 20 are selected to give an audition lecture for The Teaching Company. Did anybody try any of the courses they offer? if yes, did you use the knowledge acquired to pass any examination? Thanks
The Teaching Company was at one point ('97 or so) working on setting up a way to get credit for their courses through a credit-by-exam program, but I think it stalled. A pity, because I bet if that were pursued now, it would not be difficult to partner with an innovative DL program to make that happen.
I am a BIG fan of The Teaching Company. I used The Civil War course almost exclusively for Dantes Civil War exam. It was a very good resource. I also used Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union for the USSR Dantes exam, and "Hitler's Empire" for the now defunct ECE History of Nazi Germany exam. Recommendation: Anything by Dr. Thomas Childers.
I've not tried to get credit, but I like the courses and watch them for fun. I'm going to order a western civilizations course today while it's still on sale.
