IMO, if someone is a good teacher, the class won't know their true political leanings. I'm decidedly conservative, but if I'm teaching a course, I'll take the least-popular view on a subject and argue it, just to create good discussion.

So then, of course your students know you are a conservative! ;-)

No, I teach Criminal Justice, so my students are usually Patrick Buchanan devotees! :p

As much as it pained me, I've argued against the death penalty, and for abortion.

I like to argue with myself in class.

I take one side, do my level best to come up with the best arguments for, then take the other, and try to lambaste what I just said. I then do the same for the opposing point of view. Sometimes I get really heated, raising my voice, lots of sarcasm, invective.

The students get a great view of both sides, and I don't tell them my personal views. They seem split upon whether I'm a commie lib or a reactionary conservative in my personal views. So I think I'm doing OK.

But the one thing they agree upon: I'm completely insane.

well if one can brand liberalism communism and conservatism fascism ; i wouldnt want to stay in that kind of debate...too much conflict - name-calling - almost like religious hatred from the 30 years war between the catholics and protestants....similar conflicts but more with the politics of religion....

i hear there will be a great need for professors in medical schools and colleges.....there will be a great demand for them ...and there is a shortage especially here in chicago ..

I would have assumed that they round up a bunch of people with PhDs in History, Literature, Philosophy, and Political Science with concentrations in Black Studies, Chicano Studies, and Women's Studies. I would have also assumed that their professorates were usually joint appointments. But I could be wrong.

FYI, for example, the balance of Ward's exdepartment at UoC is an outstanding mix of PhDs from prestigious universities. They may be radicals, but at least it appears they have the creds.

What sort of market forces are driving this upcoming high demand for medical school professors in Chicago? And why do you think there will be difficulty meeting that demand?

Do you guys think that Churchill is the quintessential radical and anti-american "activist" (a politically correct euphism for a militant or terrorist)? Well think again because our beloved SUPERMAN, America's beloved super hero is no longer defending you and me or America. Do you recall the opening to the superman TV series when the announcer would conclude with superman "fights an ever ending battle for truth, justice and the American Way? Well no more. His new politically correct image in the updated version of the superman film notes that he "fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and all that stuff"! G_D HELP US!

I think that in order to be considered a properly accredited left wing radical, one has to throw a few molotov cocktails at the Army or the cops or the National Guard or maybe blow up a few ROTC buildings. If you're going to be a candy-@$$ wimp and just write books and pamphlets about the revolution (without being man enough to actually get one's hands dirty), then one is an unaccredited radical ... or maybe no more than a revolutionary theorist.

You ever notice that Ward looks a lot like a James Bond villian?

Nah! The long hair and the cheap sunglasses make him look like a hippie throwback trying to go incognito!

OK, I get the hippie thing, yeah. But he looks like some sort of villian, maybe not Bond. Maybe something along the lines of the maniac that Dennis Hopper played in Speed. Now I could see him in that role.

Well, you know, a hippie that actually showers and shampoos his hair like civilized people

I'm really starting to like you guys :p

Regarding the Bond villain thing...he does look like someone who would put a bomb on a train or something...a la Mission Impossible.

I can see the villain in him for a James Bond movie. In fact, he would make a good one. He towers over everyone, makes good emotional speeches and has those angry penetrating eyes.

    Re: Fraud

In line with our discussion I just read this article on MSNBC (under the rubric "US NEWS") regarding the alleged extraordinary difficult plight of black males in ths US that according to the authors is due to negative stereotypes emanating from whites! In fact the article places the entire onus of these stereotypes, such as black males being threatening, aggressive, etc, on whites without one iota of acknowledgement of blacks' responsiblity for these stereotyped image. Yes, prejudice exists and remains a problem. However, the grossly distorted content of this article that externalizes the entire blame for these problems on whites would have been appropriate for a leftist revisionist blog not a nationally acclaimed news medium with the stature of MSNBC.

In fact this distorted article is actually an excellent example of the culture of radical leftism that has absolutely no moral conscience regarding distorting and revising facts with a total disregard for truth. Most sgnificantly it is the type of destructive journalism that actually perpetuates racism by creating an environment of blame and anger rather than of reconciliation and understanding between disparate ethnic groups.
