I don't know the specifics behind this offer, but if anyone falls in this category, it's definitely worth looking into.

Pretty much all the Universities in my state are offering free tuition for those disrupted by Katrina. Perhaps NCU could do better?

Are the universities in your state offering free tuition for DL courses/degrees? Are they offering free tuition for those that do not reside in your state?

If nothing else, than maybe this thread could be a place for people to list which universities are offering assistance to Katrina’s victims. :)

No matter how you look at it, 50% off is much better than paying full price.

UNO coach: Other schools trying to 'loot my players'

Just gotta love those "not-for-profit" schools trying to take advantage of UNO's misfortunes.

    All class.

As a full tuition-paying student of NCU I applaud NCU's efforts.

    Just my opinion

Re: Re: Re: College Plans Disrupted Because of Katrina?...NCU is offering a 50% disco

It seems many schools across the country ARE offering free tuition. I appreciate NCU's gesture, but again I ask if they can't do better. Here are a few the schools stepping up to the plate and, yes, there are DL options among them.

    (Oregon State)
    University of Oregon
(I have heard via news reports the other Oregon State system schools will match this offer)
    Lewis & Clark College
    Concordia University
    Willamette University (including law school)
Marylhurst University ($14,000 scholarship enough to cover tution and all fees and includes DL courses)

    (Elsewhere)
    University of Arkansas system
    Baker College (includes DL course)
Lenoir-Rhyne College (tuition, room, and board)
    University of Richmond
Franklin Pierce College (tuition, room, and board)
    Franklin College
Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Universities

Here are other schools to add to Dave's list which are offering similar deals to Katrina-affected students:

    University of Oklahoma
    Oklahoma City University
    Salem College
    University of Massachusetts system
Suffolk University in Boston and Suffolk University Law School
    Lincoln College
    Westminster College

Some of these schools are taxpayer-supported public schools. Others have limits, and still others are NOT offering free tuition as the above posts suggest. For example:

    Doesn't sound free to me

Doesn't sound free to me, either

    http://www.fpc.edu/pages/Campusnews/pressreleases.htm#katrina

Limited to one semester. Then what, full tuition if they need to stay longer?

    http://www.franklincollege.edu/afcweb/release.cfm?RL=229

Franklin College Offers Free Admission to Students Displaced by Hurricane Katrina

    Released/Updated: 9/1/05

Limited to one semester. Then what, full tuition if they need to stay longer?

Seems to me the Not-for-profit sector could be doing much better!

    Carlos

All institutions AND people have limits. All schools mentioned do in deed offer free tuition. This is something for these schools to be VERY proud of. Carlos for some reason you seem to be trying to put a very negitive spin on this. Is there a reason for that?

Please show me where the University of Oregon and Lewis & Clark are offering free tutiton. I can only find the following:

    Lewis & Clark

Negative, not at all. I read where:

Please explain to me how ONE (1) semester of so-called free tuition will help these poor people?

You want a new for-profit to do better. I want the not-for profits to show the way by giving at least a year to the unfortunate students. Going to a different school will be a major undertaking and these institutions know there is a good chance they will stay.

Some of these schools can afford to pay their football coaches 6-7 figure salaries. Many have solid endowments.

Certainly they can do better than they are.

    Just my opinion

    Wow Carlos...

Do you hear how you sound? Negativity and vendetta come to mind. I am guessing you feel NCU was slighted and that is your reason? You may want to reexamine your thoughts and actions.

    Lol,

Carlos I think all the offers are generous. I even think NCU's offer is good. I just think NCU can do better. If you have trouble putting this in to perspective I think that is more than I can help you with. Perhaps you should seek the advice of others. I hope it works out for you.

    Lol,

Perhaps you should ask again? :) What do you think NCU's REAL cost is per ADDITIONAL student? 50% of tuition? 30%? Less? The other offers whether for 1 week, 1 semester or 1 year cost the schools actual money. Money which in most public systems is very limited. In comparison NCU's offer is rather miserly. If that bothers you, I doubt I can help you. As I suggested before you may need to seek the advice from others.

I think you are losing perspective. I have already answered your questions whether you choose to accept it or not. I also think NCU can do quite a bit better. Their offer looks paltry in comparison to the others. In any event take care and have a great holiday.

Our local university Arkansas State offered to waive the out of state tuition fee for victims of Katrina. I hope they were not put out of their way too much.
