Dr. Lee, is the CEO and Founder of ADVANCE ACADEMY Resources Sdn Bhd, a company established to meet the rapidly growing demand for skills development training needs by business owners, professionals, engineers and executives in the Asia-Pacific Region and in particular to provide up to date management knowledge and practices in various fields of management through it?s unique EDS? Rich Americans worried more by terrorism - survey

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wealthy Americans felt more optimistic about the economy's strength in this quarter, but they are less inclined to spend and invest as terrorism concerns mount, according to a survey published on Monday.

McDonald Financial Group, a unit of KeyCorp, said its Affluent Consumer Confidence index rose 2 points to 52 this month from 50 in April, when the poll was last conducted. Surveying began on July 6, one day before London's transport system was attacked in a series of fatal bombings.

The survey found rich Americans' plans to buy luxury goods, cars, homes and stock all declined this quarter, even as the percentage of those who believed the Standard & Poor's 500 index would rise increased.

"This group doesn't seem willing to put their money where their mouth is," said David Legeay, senior vice president at McDonald Financial. "They believe the S&P will head up, but their plans to increase investments have gone down in what I think is an emotional reaction to what's going on overseas and how that could translate into a threat domestically."

The Affluent Consumer Confidence index randomly surveys individuals with investable assets of $500,000 or more and/or annual personal income of $150,000 or more.

 

After spending a few minutes looking through the Akamai website I took a few more minutes to email the scholl with a question or two. I was a bit surprised to receive a response from Dr. Caragrossi himself. It may have been a canned response. I wrote again in order to clarify some information that had been provided. My question was in regards to the cost of their PhD program. I was told that the total amount paid to the school would be $7,200.00 for the entire PhD program. Subsequently I received another email from Steven Cox, one of the Department Heads. All the communications I received were prompt, polite and invited questions and comunication.

At the moment I've reached no conclusions about this school. It offers some interesting programs and the process (PhD) is described in terms that make it seem like any other PhD program ... coursework ... comprehensive exams ... dissertation ... defense of dissertation, etc. Clearly the standards are the key.

With all that in mind I find myself somewhat disturbed by the costs. They're too low. It's ironic that I'm saying this because I'm the one who is always advocating South African degrees because (partially) of their low cost. I find that understandable though, considering the exchange rate. In this case, with a school in Hawaii (where the cost of living is really quite high) it is hard for me to understand how these degrees can be offered so cheaply. I have the echo of my old Dads voice in my ear, "Sometimes you can find a bargain, but most often you get what you pay for." I'm still hoping that Akamai is a start-up bargain but I'm prepared to discover that it isn't.

I think that nationalism and ethnicity are red herrings. And while I share everyone's suspicion about Mr. Salleh's and Xtra's personal motivations, those suspicions seem to be largely ad-hominem with regards to Akamai.

If Satan himself signed up on Degreeinfo and criticized a particular school, if those diabolical criticisms were correct, then they would still be correct, regardless of their source.

For the sake of argument, let's suppose that Mr. Salleh and Xtra are in fact degree mill operators. Why are they going to these efforts here on Degreeinfo to discredit Akamai? Presumably they see Akamai as a competitor that's taking market share. But if that was true, then would it be consistent with Akamai being a small idealistic DL start-up? Or would it be more consistent with Akamai being another kind of business entirely?

The NST report today quoted sources on the National Accreditation Board as describing Akamai as “another dubious university being investigated by the authorities”.

Of course it isn't about that at all, and you know it. Nice try and diverting the issue away from what it really is, in your case: Whom, if anyone, do you represent? For whom, if anyone, are you and agent?

I posted questions to Wan Salleh because he suddenly appeared at DegreeInfo accusing Akamai of being a dubious university -- which, incidentlally, it may well be for all we know -- but his reluctance to answer said questions surely reflects shortcomings in him on the whole. So again I ask:

Bill, Akamai has learned a great deal from the DegreeInfo dialogue. While we still feel unfairly bashed, it has become more understandable... The fact we have not raised a hand in our own defense should not be misunderstood. We are not hiding anything...except perhaps our weariness.

Some of the confusion you are facing about Akamai might be dispelled by further discussion of the facts.

1. From the inception of the University, degree-granting powers were NEVER offered or provided to any affiliate organization of Akamai University.

2. Marketing and promotional activities are and shall remain fully under the control and direction of the University administration in Hawaii. This means that promotional plans are to be prepared in written format, reviewed and approved by the University headquarters before any activities are put in place. It means that print and online promotional materials shall be reviewed in their draft phase, for feedback and revisions, and subsequent approval, prior to any public issuance of these materials. All AU materials shall comply with all laws and regulations across all jurisdictions of the programs in question.

3. Presently all Akamai affiliations are under redevelopment. While most of the revisions were put in place last year, a number of additional revisions are now underway.

*All affiliate organizations must have the right to operate and remain in good standing within their home country as a basis for continued AU affiliation. This was always the case...and we were sure to gather documentation in this regard.

*To assure that all degree program leaders and course instructors meet acceptable standards, all affiliate faculty members will be required to make application and be found acceptable for placement on the Akamai faculty. This co-faculty status was not required previously.

*All student applicants, that wish to complete part of their distance learning program at an outside (affiliate) education and training site, must satisfy the entry prerequisites for our programs. These are the same standards we all were expected to meet when we pursued our own degrees. In the past, there we some weaknesses were discovered in our admission process, which have now been revised.

*The curriculum at the affiliate school, including the syllabus and study guides for the modules that comprise the course array are and shall all be reviewed and approved before the programs are permitted to operate. Third party reviews are already in place, permitting outside assessments and recommendations of all degree program standards. Written periodic reviews of faculty performance and student progress shall be gathered, reviewed and responded to in detail.

*Grading is being more diversified to bring into focus greater challenges for the students and an assurance that our learning objectives have been achieved. All course modules will require mandated scholarly reading, essay replies to questions relative to that reading, and scholarly papers that will include full citations and referencing of the literature. Once papers are graded, they will be presented to the University and processed through a random selection of scholarly reviews. Last year we began this process. All papers must be presented in the English-language. Instructors will send the course grade reports to the University. All students MUST complete a monitored comprehensive written and oral examination at the end of their subject matter coursework, and these materials will be reviewed and placed in record at the University. All students will complete a major project proposal, conduct the major project, prepare the manuscript according to publishable standards, and then stand for a defense of their project. In the past, there were some weaknesses found in the program elements among the affiliates

We have the full cooperation and involvement of our affiliates in putting these revisions in place. This shift in paradigm should be realized by the end of the year. Any further advisements or warnings you may provide will be appreciated.

And if you review the brochure then earlier on you should done so and why wait until today you only telling the peoples that you had started the process of reveiwng.
