I had an ex-girlfriend who went to the Fashion Institute in SF and was a fashion merchandiser. A thankless job - she worked 60+ hours a week for a crummy salary (early 80's - I think around 25K a year). I work long hours too - but at least I make six figures for my efforts (dangerous job too - toxic gasses are no fun).

Welcome to the board. I am going to CSU-DH's MBA online program myself - great program and a lot cheaper than UoP or Devry.

    Cheers
    W.

  2. Welcome to degreeinfo!

    Hey there crazie8chck,
Welcome to the discussion board! Don't let these cranky old geezers get to you - we need new blood, especially ones as personable as you appear to be. Good luck with all your DL pursuits, and in your quest to meet people with similar interests.

Some are giving you grief because this board tends be anonymous, except for small cliques that exist within it where everyone knows each other. That's OK too - but don't let it scare you off.

Lord knows I get my share of abuse for sharing my "wisdom" with the team here too. But I also get a lot out of the responses, even border-line abusive ones, because this is one smart bunch of people, and you are in good company - believe it or not....

Carl (who is WAY too old for you..... haha).

Oh come on Carl, wouldn't you like an 18 year old again? lol.

When I first went back to school in 1998 I had this 19 year old blonde who always sat next to me and yacked up a storm. Pretty lady but after meeting her friends, I realized quickly that it would never be more than a romp --- not much in common. (I am not into nose piercings - lol).

Anyway Crazie - welcome to the board. Don't let the theologes and geezers get you down. Carl: Hey my man, I like your insights - keep up the good work.

Hi Uncle - I'm sorry to upset you but based on my reading of this thread, your claim to this title is no longer valid.

    Hi Chanel:

    Welcome to the board.

My take on your mixed welcome might be off a bit, but here it is.

Certainly, there is a little discomfort about divulging personal information. This is a board that purports to live in the world of ideas and information. Anonymity is a big thing.

The other issue is that degree mill shills show up on this board unexpectedly and from any direction. They cause a tremendous amount of trouble. So, when a new member shows up asking for personal information (which, of course, can be used as a weapon in the hands of the unscrupulous), I suspect that warning bells start ringing for some members. I must admit, it did occur to me.

Carl is right. This is one smart bunch of people, myself excepted. They have excellent insights into DL and higher education in general.

You seem to stand your ground well. Stick around here, and you'll do okay.
    :)

    Hi Crazie8chck,

    Welcome to the forum.

I'm happily married and have a daughter older than you are.

I wish you the best of luck in meeting people but must assume that I'm not what you were hoping for. :D

Wow, well, thank you for all of your mixed welcomes too. Believe me, I'm not looking for anything from you people! That's funny. Lol. But I guess I'm much more of a personal person than you all are. Anyways...

Thanks to aic712 for your nice welcome. I'm here to liven up these boards I guess. Lol. And Mr. Engineer I'm studying Fashion Design & Merchandising in order to become a fashion designer. I'd rather be that than deal w/the public & such. Like I am now...But I heard it's long hours to become a fashion designer too & I'm aware of that. But thanks for the input. Thank you Carl_Reginstein for your welcome too...Interesting one. Lol. And marilynd & Bill Huffman, thanks for your welcomes also. I'm smarter & more different than most of you think. But let's not get "personal" here. Lol. Anyways, this was fun...Who knew a few lil lines could strike up such a conversation in here?

    I agree

    I agree.

Jeez Del Elms, what are you getting all worked up over????

Unless you started the thread and had it highjacked simply don't look at it and it will all be over in a very short while.

    Re: I agree

    It's "DesElms," lazjazz.

I'm not "worked-up," thankyouverymuch. How 'bout you scroll back to the very beginning of this thread, re-read the thread-starting post -- including it's dating-service-like subject -- as well as all the unfriendly crap the thread-starter has since written, and just think about it in light of this forum's history for around three seconds, okay?

    Gimmee a break.

How about we move on with our lives & have better & bigger things to worry about?

    DegreeInfo convention

When the notion of a DegreeInfo convention arose a year or so ago, there seemed to be great enthusiasm for a two (or one or three) day event, in Las Vegas (or San Francisco or east coast).

All it takes (as with many things in life) is time and money. I have none of the former (caregiving is a job and a half, as people told me it would be). I'd be willing to help with the latter, but only with a clear and reasonable plan.

And while we're being social, a hearty happy birthday to "ramennnoodlez" (and I do hope that is his or her real name, not a screen name. Cedric Q. Ramennnoodlez or Primrose T. Ramennnoodlez, or whatever.

East Coast works best for me but I'd rathr do West Coast than nothing at all. As for ramennnoodlez, Happy Birthday!

So, anyone here who is not only into DL, but also SM, BD, FF, WS, CBT, TT, and/or M&M's? :D
    _______________

If you don't know what these things are, you wouldn't want to - except, perhaps, for the M&M's. And the question posted here is, of course, purely rhetorical. I am not into any of the above - well, except for the M&M's. Unless you want to believe otherwise, which would enhance my reputation in some circles.

In my world CBT = Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My impression is that at the time of your posting you're not in my world.

    Science

I am not a science grad but I did History of Science and Technology as a supplementary (roughly = to a minor in a US institution) to my BA(hons) Archaeology at Leicester back in 1988.
