Ditto for engineers (at least in aerospace industry); I doubt if I have seen 20 in thirty years working at visiting dozens of companies. My certs are in a file cabinet at home.

    PowerPoint Certificate

I too am the first in my family to complete college, grad and post grad degrees. However, it is the PowerPoint Certificate which enhances the decor of my office. The 6 X 8 certificate is triple matted in a black and gold 16 X 20 frame, landscape formatted and hung with pride. Why? Because its an earned certificate.

What I can't figure out is why I hang my J.D. and New Mexico law license on my wall. I am Staff Attorney for the local Court of general jurisdiction. The public never sees me and my clients, all Judges, know who I am.

So who am I trying to impress?

Nevertheless, there the diplomas are, covering the cracks in the plaster!

The Judges ALSO hang their diplomas in their chambers.

Maybe we're afraid of forgetting where we put them?

    Dennis,

Would you mind clarifying the UE a bit for me? I assume that it's something to do with United Empire Loyalists (from whom I am apparently descended and therefore the reason for my query)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Diplomas

Hell yeah they are on my wall. I worked hard for them and I am not modest about education by any stretch of the imagination.

Having said that I would not drive a red or yellow Ferrari for fear of looking or seeming too brash but educaction??? I am proud of my degrees.

Titles and degrees may buy you 50 cents and a cup of coffee if your are no good at what you do but if you are they lend allot of credibility. When I get my MS and (someday) my DBA or Phd they will go up there too.

My little associate degree proudly hands on my wall and when my AIU degree arrives it'll hang on the wall right next to the associate degree and a notary commission.

The trend in the company I work with is for supervisory staff to hang their certifications and degrees on the wall. It serves a dual prupose... it cuts down on the need for tacky looking paint or wall paper, and impresses the customers on the rare occasions when they have to come see us.

I had my three degrees turned into metal plaques and they are all hanging on my office wall. The style that I chose can be seen by clicking here (3rd plaque from the left). :D

    They look really sharp. :D

General Guy Carleton, lead British forces at the end of the revolution and wouldn't withdraw from New York until the loyalists were evacuated, mostly to Canada.

He was then appointed governor of Canada. At this time he granted the title UE for unity of empire to loyalists living in Canada. The honour descends in both male and female lines. It is used infrequently but must be shared by many millions of Canadians.

There is a United Empire Loyalist Association that is stringent about full membership but they don't control use of the honour. Nobody does.

I have one female ancestor living in loyalist country not long after the revolution but her last name is Smith and I can't track down her father amongst the many Smiths. Records concerning Loyalists are excellent but baptismal records in the then Southern Ontario bush are non-existent.

I have never bothered hanging my diplomas in any office I have occupied. Rather, they hang in my bedroom, where they can serve as an object for my mastubratory fantasies and impress my many sex partners. :D

I remember a group in South Africa called the "League of Empire Loyalists." The most racist group I ever came across.

    Different crew, no common denominator.

Speaking of tolerant people, I was talking to a Northern Ireland Catholic lady. She said she just arrived in Canada and what does she see but an Orange Lodge. I told her that here they aren't at all political but she wasn't too sure.

And what colour of kilt does the reserve Irish Regiment of Canada wear - orange.

Thanks for the link. My home office has cherry furniture and I think the laser engraved just may work.

I don't have anything hanging up at work, as we (the Lecturers) are in a big room with cubicles. Besides, everyone in my department has the same qualifications, so it's understood.

At home, however, I have finally indulged in an "I Love Me" wall for the first time. Actually, walls. :) My degrees (and certificate, in lieu of a minor) hang on one wall, while some of my military awards and certificates hang on the other. I also have up my military awards shadowbox. Before moving into my latest home, I had never had any of my degrees, etc. framed. However, framing is so cheap over here (15 different items, certificate size and higher, ~$200.00), I thought, why not? I should be proud of what I've done.

Of course, hardly anyone ever sees them, but I do. Reflecting on what I've done so far with my life renews my determination for what I still have yet to do in the future.

Thanks for the link, me again -- I really like the cherry wood diplomas as well!

    Regards,
    Adrienne

No it is not tacky to hang your diplomas on the wall. Men tend to do this more often than women but in the professional world it provides some credibility. On top of that...what the heck you earned them.

As for business cards.....I see BSW's list their bachelors and most folks I know with Masters put them on the card. In Canada it would be the norm to list all of your degrees plus fellowships etc. In the US no. Here I would not put my undergrad degree on and in fact I would not put two MA's on either (just use one).

As for Steve's comment "Oh vey".

Down here, the B.S.W.s put the initials on their business cards because the profession is licensed at degree levels and the scope of practice is restricted for B.S.W.s.

I thought that there was a law in some states that mandates practicing attorneys and/or physicians to display their degrees. I've heard some say it is only their licenses that need to be displayed. Others have said that their professional diploma (JD, MD) must be displayed as well. One person told me that ALL of their college diplomas must be displayed. As I am neither an attorney, nor a physician, I have know idea if this is accurate.

PS My BA is hanging in my mom's house. It looks nice their and I don't, yet, have the heart to take it back.

Years ago I ran accross a statute that required Chiropractors to display their licenses. I've never seen a rule in this state (NM) requiring any degree to be displayed.

I hang my diplomas on my den wall at home on my personal wall of honor. I also proudly displayed my Millard Fillmore Institute diploma along with family photographs and my "exceptional catch" North Carolina state fishing citations for Sea Mullet and Sailfish. I just received a new one -- Graduate Certificate of Arts (Theology) from the Australian Catholic Universty and am comtemplating getting it framed. You earned them why not display them.

At my work office I have not displayed any diplomas but I have thought of hanging my Ph.D. at some point in time -- but never seem to get around to doing it as I would have to remove it from the home wall thus upsetting the balance.
