Yes, exactly, but that means the tea leaves suggest they will shoot it down when they finally get to it.

    Opinion article

In reality, many current or proposed Democratic policies – de facto open southern border that has let in roughly 2,000,000 migrants each year; the Ibram-Kendi-backed proposal for a federal Department of Anti-Racism to monitor every business in the nation – are more bizarre and dangerous than anything Donald Trump has yet suggested. Whichever party you may happen to think is worse, it’s worth remembering that both would eventually benefit from any awful new powers the Supreme Court might certify in this election cycle.

"Trump, in contrast, is being accused of somehow inciting a mostly unarmed riot that he almost certainly had no prior knowledge of – after in fact telling the same crowd of rubes to remain “peaceful.” Irregardless of partisan thoughts on the former president’s conduct, it will no doubt prove extremely difficult to reach the evidential threshold for “insurrection”, with all the foreknowledge and deliberate malice the term implies."

I didn't check how factual it is.

I've yet to hear how the border is any more or less "open" than it ever has been. Nor have I yet to hear what it means to "close" it.

If this info is even 50% correct then
border that has let in roughly 2,000,000 undocumented migrants each year then the border is not secured. "Open".

If the #s were in 100s then it will be considered "Closed" not sealed, but 95%.

Open = large #s of unapproved crossings.
Closed = Only properly approved, asilum, visa, etc border crossings.

“One thing is absolutely clear: America is at a breaking point with record levels of illegal immigration,” Speaker Mike Johnson said during a news conference on Wednesday afternoon. “And today, we got a firsthand look at the damage and the chaos the border catastrophe is causing in all of our communities. The situation here and across the country is truly unconscionable.”

Visit to Rio Grande by 60 or so Republicans reps to look at the damage to the small toens border comunity.

Um, more dangerous than attempting to overthrow the constitutional process for selecting the next President? More dangerous than calling for a violent mob to attack the Congress and hang Mike Pence?

    Bullshit.

There were significantly fewer legal and illegal immigrants during the Trump administration simply because of the pandemic. Trump was able to activate a special handling of the border policy because of the pandemic.

Our immigration policies are broken. They need to be fixed by passing new laws. The Republican party would rather have a broken immigration system than allow new laws to fix it. The best motivator to get the Republican base charged up and donating money and getting out the vote is to talk about evil immigrants and then blame it on the horrible Democrats.

    quote:
Despite fear-mongering political platitudes from the right, significant immigration and border proposals introduced in 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2021, and 2022 all failed, largely due to Republican opposition.

It seems the only thing Republicans want more than a fixed immigration system is a broken immigration system.

    We’ve been here before

After over 30 years of inaction, House Speaker Mike Johnson and the far right now insist that U.S. borders must be fixed before the U.S. meets its security commitments to Ukraine and Israel. It’s a cynical bet on America’s short attention span.

Actually, majority of posts here are critical to say it mildly of GOP, and since I don't see any posts in support of GOP, I think it's fair to present what posibly half a country at some levels belive.
If Yahoo news publishes it, I think this encourages debate and hear more then one side.

    Never been closed, is correct.
But one can have a leak or a flood, in both cases they're are open, but there is a difference.
And this issue is going to be one of the top issues during the GOP campaigning and used to attack the current admin in 2024.

According to the article, they say that it is.
    It's the Telegraph opinion article.

    This is their view,

"Trump, in contrast, is being accused of somehow inciting a mostly unarmed riot that he almost certainly had no prior knowledge of – after in fact telling the same crowd of rubes to remain “peaceful.” Irregardless of partisan thoughts on the former president’s conduct, it will no doubt prove extremely difficult to reach the evidential threshold for “insurrection”, with all the foreknowledge and deliberate malice the term implies."

    Both of you wrong.
I stated the reason I posted this.
And it's issue by issue. Most posts in this political forum are bashing GOP.

    Just for balanced debate.
