It isn't just threats of explosions or accidental releases of something toxic. I'd guess that they have that pretty much under control most places. When the flooding threatened, lots of these plants were presumably put into an emergency safe mode. But they won't be able to restart until damage is assessed and repaired. A great deal of the gasoline, refined petroleum goods and other chemicals consumed elsewhere in the Eastern United States, comes from the Texas gulf coast, by pipeline and by tanker ships. So if refineries, chemical plants and port facilities remain off-line for an extended period, it means possible fuel shortages and other impacts are coming in the Northeast. Expect gas prices to rise.
impasse? https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/08/republicans-considering-making-hurricane-victims-pay-for-trumps-wall?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&ICID=ref_fark
Yes, Republicans want people to die. Especially victims of natural disasters, old people, and children. Oh, and kittens and puppies. Especially puppies.
You seem to be getting very sensitive these days, Bruce. All I said is that it's an impasse. There is little doubt of that fact. Clearly a compromise will be required. I'm sure one will be agreed upon. But, it is a "cake and eat it" situation. You can't cut FEMA and then promise that they'll do more. If you have a confession you'd like to make regarding kittens and puppies I'm sure out members will grant absolution. But I said nothing about that at all.
I was referring to the article, not to you. I'm not sensitive, I'm merely pointing out the absurd hyperbole and outright dishonesty of the outlets attempting to pass themselves off as news these days. I suppose because they've become so desperate, and were already so bitter and angry over losing the election, that highlighting their own words and actions can seem sensitive. Don't kill the messenger.
Anyone who wears pressed blue jeans with a razor-sharp crease in them already has 2 strikes with me. Stupid & petty, I know..... Cruz would be a great SCOTUS candidate; Alan Dershowitz was one of his professors at Harvard Law, and described his as something like "off the charts brilliant".
He may well be smart in some ways but apparently he didn't see that voting against the Hurricane Sandy relief bill might backfire when his home state gets flooded.
OK, look out the window 'cause there's just gotta be some pigs flying around out there. Trump snubbed the Republicans and made a deal with the Dems. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/republicans-left-reeling-after-deal-between-trump-democrats-n799326?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&ICID=ref_fark
an interesting little wrinkle in the whole Harvey mess https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2017/09/07/texas-churches-damaged-during-harvey-sue-fema-for-federal-funding-denied-houses-of-worship/?ICID=ref_fark&tid=sm_tw&utm_content=link&utm_medium=website&utm_source=fark&utm_term=.8f9e32286b6e
I'm dragging this thread off-topic but, what else is new? Ted tries the old "My secretary did it!" routine. Anyone buying it? https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/09/12/after-tedcruz-liked-a-porn-tweet-sen-ted-cruz-blamed-a-staffing-issue/?utm_term=.60d421a93e91
I'm not a Cruz fan, but... yes, actually. Trump may do his own tweeting every time he's on the crapper, but most politicians don't do their own social media.
