I guess Bootstrap Pullups don't burn many calories? Although, whatever you're doing doesn't seem to be working either.
I did not understand what you were getting at from your "seems a bit more diverse" comment, but I'll run with it and see what you have in mind. From the CDC; "There are significant racial and ethnic disparities in obesity prevalence among U.S. children and adolescents. In 2007—2008, Hispanic boys, aged 2 to 19 years, were significantly more likely to be obese than non-Hispanic white boys, and non-Hispanic black girls were significantly more likely to be obese than non-Hispanic white girls". Obesity and Overweight for Professionals: Childhood: Data | DNPAO | CDC Seems like different people have different views on body types and images: Black women heavier and happier with their bodies than white women, poll finds Here's an article by Krugman, noted economist, about the inequality in America's nutrition: America’s Unlevel Field A GROWING PROBLEM - Race, Class and Obesity Among American Women - "37% of African-American women are obese; 33% of Mexican-American Women are obese; 24% of Caucasian women are obese" "According to the NHANES data, African American and Mexican American adolescents between 12 and 19 years old are more likely to be overweight than non-Hispanic White adolescents. The prevalence is 21%, 23% and 14% respectively. Also, in a national survey of American Indian children 5–18 years old, 39 percent were found to be overweight or at risk for being overweight.[37] A 2007 study found that receiving Food Stamps long term (24 months) was associated with a 50% increased obesity rate among female adults" Overweight and Obesity Rates for Adults by Race/Ethnicity "Compared with whites, Blacks had 51% higher and Hispanics had 21% higher obesity rates - To reduce racial and ethnic disparities in obesity rates we must intensify our efforts to create an environment for healthy living" So, what Rich is saying is that the more diverse a state is the fatter it is, correct? Now...are you saying that white people are not as fat as non white people? That seems kind of racist. I found that article that says people on long term food stamps have higher obesity rates. Do you support the Republican position of lessening the outlays on Food Stamps or do you want more fat people in this country? I would have never guessed you were this into race based politics.
You think that Montana, Utah, and Vermont are more diverse (I'm presuming you mean ethnically) than Southern states? I don't think Census Bureau data would back that up very well....
Heart disease is the number one killer of women but based on the media coverage you would never know it.
You'd also think that HPV killed more women than influenza or that breast cancer was a bigger problem than lung cancer. False, both.
That quote (from a different thread) was a joke. At 5' 11" and 215, my BMI is a bit high, though. I don't know what "boostrap pullups are."
No, that isn't what I was saying at all. There are other forms of diversity besides race. But thanks for jumping to that horrible conclusion without asking for clarification. The most obese states are all (with the exception of Michigan, tied for #10) are all "red." The least obese states are mostly blue, but there are a few red states sprinkled in. That was the diversity I was talking about. "Race based (sic) politics". Sheesh.
Aww, it's not funny if I have to explain it. In popular media, conservatives prefer people to "pick themselves up by their bootstraps" (get off your butt and work till your hands disintegrate) instead of "leeching" off of the government. As a language nerd, even apolitical as I am, I love the irony that the bootstraps idiom originally meant that a certain task was actually impossible.
