Hello all. I am a student at TESC, pursuing an A.S.M. - Accounting. I am currently five classes from completing my Associates, and two of those classes are offered by TESC. I must find an institution that offers the remaining 3 courses in an online program, preferrably with a rotating semester set-up similar to how TESC offers their courses (for ease of completion).

My intentions are to take the remaining 2 courses that TESC offers in the April semester (I obtained financial aid for the August/December/April semesters and must complete 2 courses in the April semester to maintain the requirements) and then one of the remaining courses concurrently with that April semester with some other institution. I'll take the last two courses following that semester to complete my Assoc. degree by December.

Back to the subject at hand -- the exact courses I need to complete my degree are a Social Science class (I'll take this at TESC), Intermediate Accting 1, Intermediate Accting 2, an accting elective (I'll take Payroll Taxes at TESC), and another accting elective.

After completing a few searches online, I came across York Technical College (out of South Carolina), http://www.yorktech.com . They seem to be RA by the Southern Assoc. of Colleges and Schools. The costs are okay ($109/credit up to 12 credits, then $1300/semester). They offer enough Distance Learning courses in Accounting that I could complete my degree requirements with courses I'd enjoy and be able to apply, without "settling" on a course simply for the needed credits. The down-side is that I believe, from what I've read, that their semesters are on the standard August-December, January-May, etc. rotation, rather than a rotating offering like TESC does.

    My questions are:
    1) Have any of you had experience with York Technical College, and if so, what are your opinions?

    2) Can you recommend any place that would have a reasonably-priced course selection, a fairly wide course selection, that offers their courses on a semester rotation similar to TESC (they offer most of their online courses every month, and are on a rotating semester schedule depending on your first month of enrollment)?

    3) Lastly, are there any suggestions for things to look for that I'm probably missing?

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have to offer.

And a final tangent... Many thanks to this board for the motivation to get started on earning my degree. I never would be this close without DegreeInfo.com's forums - I read you all regularly for a few months before getting motivated and enrolling, and took advantage of many suggestions by completeing a few CLEP exams to knock a few semesters off my degree time. I started this whole school "thing" with 20 credits from when I was much younger (and goofed off too much). I began taking CLEP courses in February (took enough CLEPs that I didn't have any Gen. Ed. classes remaining except the above-mentioned Social Science), took 3 courses in the August semester, am taking 2 courses right now, and only have 5 courses remaining. I'm on such a roll now, I'm going to see how the financial situation is looking after completion of the Assoc., and will most likely press on to a Bachelors.

York Tech is like many of the two year tech schools in SC, in which they offer many college transfer courses. I have known a few people throughout the ages who went to York Tech for an associates degree.
From what I understand the state legislature of SC hammered out an agreement with all the individual technical schools in SC and with state funded four year colleges in which students could use the techincal schools like a cost savings community college for all their required stuff like math, english, history etc. and transfer their sixty hours of credit to...say University Of South Carolina, Clemsom, Costal, Francis Marion, etc.
What started all of this was apparently some students throughout the state were having trouble transfering from one tech school to another and/or branch university campuses.
So essentially the state government made everyone get on the same page! While I have never taken a class at York Tec, you can probably be pretty confident that it will tranfer in...but like they all say " check and make sure with your college or university"

Here's a bit more... if you need other options in the semester line up try Spartanburg Tech, Greenville Tech, Midlands Tech...it's a long shot but they may have what you need, when you need it!
