That's an interesting one. To hear Middle States tell it in Nov 2023,

Additionally, "The CHEA recognition policy requires that an accrediting organization undergo a recognition review at least every 10 years and submit two interim reports."

Since only Department of Education recognition is required for access to federal student loans/Title IV funding, I'm assuming the non-recognized regional accreditors simply don't want to go through the process of validating with two distinct organizations. Most people lump CHEA/DOE together anyway when discussing accreditation, and I'd bet a lot on this board didn't even know Middle States, NECHE and WASC were not CHEA-recognized until you brought it up!

Which does go back to something I posted (another thread) regarding what will happen to the recognition of accreditors without the US Department of Education. Will that fall to another agency? If it becomes a state function then how is uniformity of recognition achieved and how do they do that. Will most states simply default to recognizing anyone recognized by CHEA (a non governmental entity). If not what happens to CHEA (its role or substance)?

    Questions among some turbulent waters.

Everything is about to get more confusing concerning education. I believe that many educators are either afraid or are considering leaving the field now more than ever.

So long as there are still Pell grants and federal student loans, then I expect that whatever process is used for eligibility will be used among IHEs for transfer credit.
