Why Capella University?

Not exactly. ACBSP and IACBE do not require professors to carry formal research loads, so the tuition at these schools tends to be lower. AACSB schools are operating with a different, more expensive business model because professors do less teaching. AACSB schools might attract some of the better students (i.e., easier to teach students who were born into the dominant culture), but I doubt whether the professors are any better at actually teaching undergraduate students. So for one to argue that AACSB is better or golden, one has to buy into AACSB's own (self-styled) frame of reference.

I agree with this, other than the weird bit about students born into the dominant culture. I don't see any reason to prefer AACSB accredited schools if the goal is actually to learn about business. If the goal is to become a professor in a business school, then yes, they're probably a better choice, but that's not the same objective.

Dave makes some good points here. ACBSP and IACBE accreditation focuses more on the teaching of students than it does on research. AACSB is higher regarded, as many programs require faculty to have graduated from an AACSB accredited school, but, as Dave rightly points out, that provides little indication that a graduate from an AACSB school can teach any better than one from a ACBSP or IACBE school. In fact, some of our most skilled business teachers work for community colleges.

I'm referring to the fact that persons of color are conspicuously underrepresented in higher education at all levels and roles, which might be attributed to the fact that higher education is generally inaccessible and not culturally competent...

TEKMAN, is this some kind of joke?
The last time i saw your signature line, you were 40% complete at Capella University (PhD), and 40% complete at Georgetown (MPS). Also, you had completed one MS in Telecom from SMU. So, what's the deal with this Cyrus Rhodes University? What's the Hayes University, and Hearst College suppose to mean? Is this some sort of "throw "em off games" or what? Cyrus Rhodes University? Are you serious? Is this new - another NCU started to save us all from the present NCU, and the Capellas, the TUIs - oops Trident University International College National Polytechnic school?

    Cyber,

    Yes, they are...
Cyrus Rhodes University is a fictional school in TV Show: Greek
Hayes University is a fictional school in TV Show: Glory Daze
Hearst College is a fictional school in TV Show: Veronica Mars, the school is located in Neptune, California (between Los Angeles and San Diego)
Glendale Community College is a fictional school in TV Show: The Community

40% at Capella University 'cause of the 48 credits transfer.
40% completed at Georgetown...I have done, I am taking 2 courses; and it should be 60% by May (Plan to graduate this December). I am taking only 1 course at Capella University because I am changing the program into Information Technology instead Organization and Management.

    Tekman,

I wanted to check in and see how Capella was working out for you? Can you give us a status update?

What is your opinion of Capella now, that you have completed a few courses?

    Thanks

    Homeland Security,

I am on probation by myself. Yes, I have completed several courses. And Capella University will to take all my credits up to 48 Quarter Hours. I was originally in the Ph.D in Organization & Management. However, I steered into the Information Technology route after I found that the program required too much Social Behavior Studies and Psychology. After being one term in the Information Technology program, I found that the program is useless. There is the reason why....

Most of the courses do not require textbook; therefore, you will read bunch of assigned articles from the Databases. Then post two discussions, and reply two for each. Most of the time, the instructors do not read all the post. Most of the posts from students are BSing....There is zero tolerance in the Blackboard classroom. Therefore, you cannot criticize others posts...if so, will end up in an argument. Yes, it happened in one of my classes before. Honestly, I had great experience at the first residency of the program (Colloquium). I meet many great people, but I don't think the program is not for me. I need some sort of instruction lectures, not just only reading average 100 pages per week.

I have met a friend at Capella University, in fact he is working in Information Technology. He has been into half of the program, but he is clueless about technology.

As of right now, I just requested INACTIVE for awhile. However, I do not intend to return back to the program. At this moment, I just finish up my Master program at Georgetown University, PMP, CISSP, and CCNP. I am working on my application to Columbia University’s Doctor of Engineering Science in Electrical Engineering – Telecommunications Engineering. And Nova Southeastern University is my backup for Ph.D in Computer Science.

TEKMAN, I am sort of the same path as you but working on degree completion, I work over at L'Enfant. I am taking my PMP exam in August before they change the test and the CISSP hopefully this year too. I have been working in IT for about 20 years yet not having a degree keeps me from getting into management positions for IT. I took courses at Capella as well and the administration seems very responsive but your fellow students can be a mixed bag sometimes for the worse.

Is this a dig at Trident itself, or just the name?
