Why an expensive text?

    What a spectacle. Let all the low income students come into a library and fight for a single book. Its like mad max and the thunderdome :)

    Hmm, and sell tickets and use the proceeds to buy more copies?

    I never saw more than about six students in there at one time - I used to go there occasionally on Sunday afternoon - mostly I was the only student. I used an old version text and just went there to write down assigned problems.

    On Friday, we received an e-mail from the administration at my University informing us that since the university has an exclusive contract with Barnes and Noble (our bookstore), we are not to circumvent the bookstore, and to inform our students that they should purchase their books at the University Bookstore.

    And the universities get kick backs from the sales at the bookstore...

    Fascinating. How do the faculty as a whole feel about being told what they can say and not say to their students?

    I can't speak for our faculty, but I'll weigh in...

    On the one hand, I am an employee of the University...

    On the other hand...I know that some of our students struggle financially...
