Interesting documentary series came out recently about Renee Bach. An untrained missionary, she went to Uganda and started a medical clinic. Lots of children died there because she had no training but they were medically fragile to begin with.

Her clinic is eventually shut down after two children filed lawsuits and a trained American nurse who was volunteering filed a complaint about her practicing medicine without a license.

She paid a $20,000 fine and admitted no liability.

The subplot is the organization "No White Savior" that formed in response to her activities. While they played a critical role in exposing her, the white co-founder of that organization was eventually ousted for stealing from the organization, and being abusive to the Black staff (she denies the theft but she acknowledges the hypocrisy of being a white woman leading a Black-focused organization.)

    Truly sad.

I watched this documentary this week. It's sad to me that the whole thing could be resolved by sending money to the communities, who know their problems best, rather than strangers coming in thinking they can solve major issues. Even at the end, the local doctor seemed to fear saying anything negative because it could cut off the funding.
