I'm currently majoring in Mass Communication, but decided that I wanted to major in something computer related. I'm starting my sophomore year and need to decide which one to take. I'm really not sure on what I'd like to do with my degree. There's so many job titles, and a lot of them sound like gibberish. I'd like to know what the main differences each of these degrees would prepare me fore. (Note: I will only be sticking with bachelor's most likely and not pursue a master's degree.) Computer Information Systems Computer Information Technology Computer Science One of the main reasons I won't do Computer Science, I think, is that if I took it I wouldn't graduate on time. I've already taken some classes that are for my current major, so that'd just be more I'd have to make up. Also, Computer science is a major that takes more than 120 credits. CS = 127 Credits CIS = 116 Credits CIT = 100 Credits 120 Credits is required to graduate, but my current classes for my major would just count as electives. Sorry for the ramble !
Welcome to the forum. Perhaps this link may be answer that question for you: http://www.degreeinfo.com/computer-related-degrees/38133-one-more-demand-cis-cit.html
I consider CIS as a more business oriented technology degree and CIT as providing more exposure to IT systems such as databases, system administration, security, programming and the web. I am biased, but I feel that CS offers the greatest flexibility. The course work is more rigorous and theoretical yet still practical . Out the gate your job prospects may be the same regardless of the three degrees unless it is programming or the job specifies a computer science degree as a requirement.
