I have all three credit banks: Excelsior, TESU and COSC. Every once in awhile, I transfer the credits I have earned from various places into the credit banks. This post is just about a little quirk in credit transfers between the two schools.

My credits from Walden came via the Tempo program for MS in Early Childhood Studies: Admin./Management/Leadership. Walden had a free semester deal and I signed up. During the free term, I earned 13.50 graduate credit hours for free and then stopped.

The Walden courses are constructed as modules. A class might typically have four or five modules that are essentially small, individually-contained courses. Rather than a grade, each module is awarded a "Mastered" or "Achieved" notation. When all of the modules of a particular course are completed, an A,B,C grade is awarded for the entire course.

The Walden transcript lists each module underneath each class as well as the mastered/achieved notation and the overall grade. Dutifully, Excelsior transcripts each module on its own transcript, but instead of mastered/achieved, Excelsior lists an A for the mastered modules and a B for the achieved modules. This is maybe good because now a grade exists on a transcript for each individual module. This is maybe bad because I had A's in all of the overarching courses, but B's on individual modules. I am pretty happy because I like having the grade. Also, Excelsior lists the module prefix as a department prefix. For example, I have LD001 and it is listed as LD under the department column and 001 under the course number.

Anyway, this is maybe getting into the weeds on this sort of thing, but if there is anything I know about degree info, it is that we like to get into the weeds.

Note: Given that the Excelsior transcript is a credit bank transcript, these might just be meaningless quirks of the system.
