so summer is coming up and I'm looking for somethign to do with my vaction time

anyone ever volunteered in Asia, Africa or South America ?

I imagine there are many opportunities for nurses, medical doctors and civil engineers, but how about something a non-skilled person could do ?
teaching ESL, assit building houses or orphanages ?

I see habitat for humanity has some opportunities
International Volunteer Program -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l

google has turned up Cross Cultural Solutions
Volunteer Abroad, International Volunteer Travel, Work Programs - Cross-Cultural Solutions

and CADIP (Canadian Alliance for Development Initiatives and Projects)
CADIP - Volunteer Programs in Canada and Abroad

I've heard of Habitat, but not these other two places.
I understand I pay for lodging, insurance, materials, food, my own tranportation to the country and so on.
I have no problem with that, but for all I know these other two places could be "take your money and take your chances"

    anybody ever volunteered abroad ?
anybody know of any reputable organizations ?

I did a few missions in South America with my church back in South Carolina. I'm not aware of any short-term ESL opportunities. The people I know that have done that went for an entire year. I think Habitat-for-Humanity might be your best bet.
