This quotation from their web site says is all...

    (5) Vancouver University Worldwide will nevertheless continue its long-standing other degrees, approved and signed outside BC jurisdiction. In some circumstances (including that of current BC residents), outcomes may need to be awarded by formal resolution adopted on or over international waters - such as while en route to a Convocation in an accepting jurisdiction.

This institution reads like a diploma/degree mill.

If you added up all the posts about Vancouver University, they would equal a book. Some of the threads were pretty entertaining too, with "university" representatives defending it and making legal threats.

The current situation is summed up in this Vancouver Sun story:

I'd be interested in knowing how you learned about them, basrsu. Are they advertising somewhere, print or internet?

As it happens, I went by the "campus" a few weeks ago. They are no longer on the building directory, unless they are using the initials "VCR" (which appeared to be a one-room office; no one was home on a Thursday afternoon).

Actually, Mr. Bear, my radar was already up and beeping before I ever posted. The site just looked a bit fishy.

I found out about this "institution" by doing a simple Google search with keywords research and doctorate and distance. Vancouver University was one of the hits.

    Thanks for the info.

It has long been surprising to me how many people with regionally accredited doctorates have been involved with highly dubious schools: Ones that come readily to mind are Rodgers of VU (PhD from Columbia, recognized scholar of the Cajun language); Maxine Asher of American World and WAUC (PhD, Walden); Grunewald of Adam Smith (PhD, Harvard); a different Rodgers of US Open University (PhD, Ohio State); Raymond Clark of Somerset (PhD, Walden). Others?

Many years ago I contacted the minister of eduction of BC about this University. I got a letter signed by the minister telling me that this Institution is not authorized to grant degrees in the province of BC and that they only had a license to operate a Montesori and a ESL school.

It is a one man operation, if you call you always get the same person that by the way is not the most friendly individual. He will go on and on, how they are justified based on some weird interpretations of Canadian federal law. In few words, they are self accredited and the BC government has been trying to shut them down for long time.

Run as fast as you can from this scam.
