Been thinking about this. Trump isn't the first crook to occupy the White House but he's the first to have been found guilty before seeking reelection.

Nixon comes to mind. Watergate was Nixon's downfall but it was far from the only corrupt thing he ever did. But I VOTED for Nixon in 1972 even though we knew what the man really was. Now, why?

In my case, the Democratic candidate, George McGovern, was the second creepiest Democrat to run in my lifetime, right after Humphrey. And I do mean creepy. There was something "off" about McGovern to my sense. I think is was connected with a pretty radical left wing stance.

    Hey, I was 18, okay?

I'm worried that Trump will attract voters who think there's something "off" about Harris. The Republicans are running some pretty misleading ads, worse than I've ever seen for dishonesty and slight of hand, but there's enough actual fact there to cause me to worry.

There are a LOT of young voters out there.

This is all true. I think that Harris and Trump are tied for the reasons you cite as well as abortion rights helping Harris and her short tenure as the nominee probably hurting her.

I just remembered - the president now has immunity from criminal prosecution for crimes considered official acts of the president. So many are saying that Trump isn't dangerous because he's already been president, and he didn't become a dictator. Well, he hasn't been a president with criminal immunity yet. That means he can commit human rights violations against the American people, and the worst that will happen is that Congress will remove him from office.

Most young people dont like Trump, but they are weary of Harris for her support of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

I think this is true. What they don't realize is that Trump would be way worse for Palestinians in Gaza than Harris.

I believe that is the general consensus. This harm reduction argument only really works when one side is actively taking steps to reduce unnecessary harm, which is not happening.

As a response, some young people are voting third party to anti-genocide candidates as a protest vote.

I hope (and believe) that Harris will be much stronger in standing up to Netanyahu on Gaza than Biden has been. She has to be very cautious prior to the election though. The Jewish vote is an important part of the Democratic base.

The "Jewish vote" is not monolithic. Orthodox Jews tend to vote for "Israel right or wrong" but absolutely not always.

Liberal and secular Jews are all over the map. There is a lot of soul searching about what is ever more clearly an opportunistic genocide and they don't like it one bit. But those with a personal connection to the State have different attitudes from those who don't.
