Greetings Stock....I could not agree more about the fact that all education, and distance education in particular is self education. We tend to get out what we put into it.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of a degree from any of the University of Maryland facilities is that it is from a highly resepcted brick and mortar school. If you can obtain the education you want by distance from them and the cost is reasonable what is not to like?

Good luck if you decide to pursue a degree via UMUC.

Some people have unrealistic expectations regarding distance education and do not realize the distinction between faculty facilitated learning and lecturing. The animals are certainly different.

For what it's worth this is the school I chose over ESC and AMU. In the Saturday April 15 edition of the Washington Post (B03) there is an article:

A Place for Both the Pen and the Sword
Professors Teach College Courses for U.S. Troops Stationed in Afghanistan

    By Susan Kinzie
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Saturday, April 15, 2006; Page B03

I don't know what to make of the article as I'm not a journalism student. It was also posted in umucreview.com

I think it's what they call a human interest story.
