It is always good to do a little research.

Couple of years ego I run in to a person who claimed titles from IBE - Institution of British Engineers.

So I checked them out, in the past they were the Institution that voted among the others for creation of EC UK.

    Times changed,

This is one of the emails I got long time ego from ECUK

IBE approached the Engineering Council in 97/98 regarding recognition and a number of meetings were held but no progress was made. IBE thus has the relevant paperwork – the latest regulations and QA requirements are on www.ukspec.org.uk

The Institution of British Engineers is a small society which maintains a list (register ) of its members. It is not widely recognised and its minimum requirements for membership do not meet those set by the Engineering Council UK for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

The basis of the claim for FEANI recognition is unclear and is being withdrawn

    Dear Sir,

I have checked the IBE website and confirm that their designation is NOT recognised by FEANI.
We will investigate further and let you know.

The IBE now offers the arguably misleading title of "Registered British Engineer (RBritEng)". According to IBE:
Should these "at-risk" people become "Registered British Engineers" with IBE, to protect their rights to use engineering titles? Unfortunately, one key fact seems to be missing: IBE is not one of the "fifty or so professional bodies coordinated by ECuk". So their "Registered British Engineer" title has no apparent legal value as far as this issue is concerned; it is not equivalent to registration with an ECUK institution. This seems deceptive.

Is it possible once they get a little cash flow they will adjust their procedures and apply to ECUK for license?

They didn't do that so far so I'm not suggesting that I have any knowledge of their plans, I did write an email to J.F and let you know what he has to say about the misleading info on the web site and future plans.

They finally change their web site to a little better looking

I did some checking on SNIPF and found that they fully legitimate and accredited to register engineers in RFI - the French registry of Engineers.

    http://www.cnisf.org/

In the link to the recognized associations the is a mark in red indicates if the association entitled and participates in registration of Engineers.

There is RFI indication next to SNIPF.

RFI - indicate that Association takes part in the French Repertory of the Engineers

According to the Counsel National des Ingénieurs et des Scientifiques de France (CNISF) the national body and council for Professional Engineers in France the SNIPF officially takes part in the French Repertory of the Engineers

They are not a mill but legitimate recognized society and just like NSPE in USA forming member of ABET the SNIPF is forming member of French National Council of Engineers and Scientists that is allowed and participates in registration of Engineers in France.

SPE UK accepted as a business partner with IET ( IEE)

Not sure what value if at all it adds but SPE UK is now a business partner with IET UK ( IEE and IIE merged).http://www.professionalengineers-

IET UK's page on "How to become an IET Business Partner" states the following:

So it doesn't sound like IET is selective about its "Business Partners", or that any effort by SPE was required to "earn" this distinction. On the contrary, it appears that any organization can become an "IET Business Partner" simply by filling out a free registration form and faxing it back to IET. Even Degreeinfo.com might well qualify as an "IET Business Partner".

If this is a newsworthy event at SPE -- and apparently it is, since SPE highlights it on their home page -- then they must be hard pressed for news to report. I am not impressed by the announcement, except negatively.
