Umcampus

    I just used that word in a posting, and realized that, while I have used it in talks, I haven't used it here, or in my books.

    One of the wonderful "new words" that people people have been writing about is "umfriend," used by young folk to identify, usually to parents, this other person who is clearly a part of their lives, perhaps even their household, as in "This is my - um - friend, Lance." Hence "umfriend".

    In the same vein, then, "umcampus". "The umcampus of Barrington University is this excellent mail forwarding company in Alabama..."

    Cute. Let me translate that into Canadian. In Canada that would be "friendeh" and "campuseh".
