While it’s still early to draw definitive conclusions, initial studies are raising concerns about the potential health risks of microplastics. According to The Washington Post, researchers from the University of California, San Francisco, have published a paper in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, which suggests a link between microplastics and serious health issues, including lung cancer, colon cancer, and certain reproductive problems.

The study, which involved thousands of experiments—primarily on mice—examined how exposure to microplastics affects three key bodily systems. In their efforts to assess potential risks to humans, the researchers specifically looked for evidence of changes in the lungs and colon, as well as signs of carcinogenic (cancer-causing) effects.

While these findings are preliminary, they highlight the need for further investigation into the long-term impacts of microplastic exposure on human health.

I'm actually more concerned than most people about microplastics, but the key word in all that is "preliminary".
