U of Oregon - $3 Billion <gasp>

    A billion here, a billion there, sooner or later you're talking about real money!

    But seriously, at what point is it enough that the University of Oregon no longer needs legislative action to stop charging tuition for Oregonians?

    From the article it seems the majority of the donations had donor earmarks, limiting their usage. Still a billion was raised for their General foundation endowment. Foundation fund raising campaigns are critical to larger institutions these days, particularly public or land grant institutions. With many state university systems facing significant legislative issues with their funding models. Where I’m at, we’re not allowed to carryover or save funds for a rainy day, grant & foundation funds are about the only discretionary funds we have control over without legislative limitations.
