    Hello,

I'm fast approaching the end of my studies at TUI and was wondering about the workload of the capstone course. Specifically MGT499 which is the BSBA capstone. Is this just like every other class with 5 modules with a 3-5 page case assignment and session long project for each module or is an increased workload since it's the capstone?

I'm trying to figure out how many classes I want to take in my final semester as I don't want to leave too many if the capstone requires a lot more effort.

    Thanks for any insight,

    Ray,

I've enrolled in MGT599 for the upcoming session. Fortunately, I won't have to take any other courses alongside it.

It (599) is the masters-level capstone course and from what I've heard, it's not the assignment lengths that are different. Instead, it requires a high degree of integration of the concepts explored in previous courses. I imagine that alone would make capstone courses--whether bachelors or masters-- more difficult than the others.

By they way, in my experience the paper lengths ARE getting longer and more complex--at least in the MBA program. I just hope MGT599 it will not be taught by my marketing professor, Dr. Wollan. During that course, she wanted 6-8 page cases and 4-6 page SLPs. Sheesh!

Anyway, good luck and congrats in advance.

ITM505 Information Technology Capstone Project was different from the other classes. Basically, the final paper was about 30 pages. The Case Studies and SLP change.

Your Case study is different. I can not really explain it but you will see. It is more research intensive than the other classes and it requires your "prospective" rather than a summary like the other papers.

That might be the best explaination but just remember it is different. The final 30 page paper is all of the case studies combined.

If you have done well with the other classes, this should be a snap. Below are so of the comment I got back from my papers. They should help to clarify what they want.

    Module 1[\b]
Thanks for submitting your first installment of the Capstone project. Please remember that this paper is very different than others you have completed with TUI. The major difference is this is a project and you will be able to use my feedback to help improve the paper.

In general I think you need to make a shift from simply answering a question asked by a Professor to developing an academic paper. Sometimes students struggle with this transition.

I would like to see more of a management focus. For example when you discussed the corporate website challenge. I would have liked to see what are the management implications. Remember part of outline suggested “major information challenges facing managers in the organization.” In this case you could draw on some research to suggest that finding information causes stress in employees, resulting in absenteeism (just an example).

Please take these comments in the spirit they are written, that is to help you produce a great paper.

    Best of luck.

    Module 2[\b]
Thanks for a very informative paper about the inner workings of your organization. You have nicely described the current organization and responsibilities.

Please remember that this is a management course, so we want to keep the focus on management issues. You will remember that I mentioned this concept in Mod 1.

After these comment, I focused on the "management prospect" of each topic and did really well. It was a tough transition since I had written 80 papers with one frame of mind.

I ended up getting an "A" in the class.

Hope this helps and best of luck.

I took two classes each semester (except the first semester - one class). I took two classes in my final semester. MKT501 Strategic Marketing with Dr. Wollan as well as the capstone. It required about twice as much time as the other semesters.

I was not ready for that!
