Trying to decide on what do do for business

I'm interested in starting a business. I've been having an issue of trying to decide on a particular direction to go. I've got a business name that would be spelled in a British version of the name which I like. But, I have a phone number that spells the name out in an American way e.g. Let's say the word would spell "Colour," which would be the British way of spelling it and the telephone number associated would spell out the word, "color." I kind of like this concept but at the same time there's a part of me that is torn that it would bring confusion to people, although, at the same time I can see where it would bring both concepts together and my purpose is to try to show originality and creativity. It's like I'm 50/50 with it. The name isn't really Colour/color for the business name but I wanted to give an example and get some opinions. I also thought perhaps I should just go with the British spelling, and forgo the phone number, and just do a standard easy-to-remember vanity number. I would like opinions on it.

In addition, I do have an option whereas I can go with a name that is the same name with no British or American distinction and the phone number would match the name nicely. I'm deciding to go with one of these options, but before I do I wanted to get opinions from others on here. My point in trying to show the British/American thing was to demonstrate that we may speak the same language but we spell things differently but that is what makes us unique and to show some creativity. The problem is that I tried to see if I could get a domain name that would match both the British/American versions, but unfortunately there was only one available with the one name and it is as with the British spelling, and I tried to get a phone number to match both, but only the American spelling was available. What do you think? Which way should I go? Can you see any advantage over one versus the other? I do know that some people have prefer everything to be matching and that's what my concern is. But I can see pros and cons in all of them. I look forward too your input. Thank you.

I think branding means a lot. Branding means more than it should as a matter of fact, but it is what it is. That being said, it sounds like bad branding to have multiple different business names. If you have to explain the name too many times to too many people, you'll lose interest.

Who are your potential customers? Where are they located? What industry are you entering? Who's already there? Barriers to entry high or low? Potential for competition? Do you have an actual physical product or is it some sort of service?

I'd decide on one name and stick with that branding for simplicities sake.

Do you have a British-based business? If so, then consider using the British style of spelling. Otherwise use the American style of spelling. More commonly known certainly in the states and worldwide. Also I'm not a big fan of phone numbers that are given spelled out. My competitor uses one and we use an easy to remember number (i.e. 5050 or 7575) and people call us first instead of them. It just seems annoying using the spelled letters to key in a phone number. Just my two cents.

I hate letters used in a phone number. Comcast does this. My problem is that on my cell phone alpha keys do not match number keys (e.g. 1 = w, 2 = E, 3 = r) in the same way as a land line.
