Trident University of Technology

In another thread, I asked about this university. Since then, this
information has become available. I am still confused about its
status. The wesite address is: www.trident.edu
They are supposed to be located in New Jersey, and are accredited by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

Any observations, feedback etc would be appreciated. Many thanks.

 

It's worth mentioning that they don't claim accreditation by the NAICU; only membership. (The NAICU is a legitimate organization with over 1,000 members, but it is my understanding that they do not accredit or evaluate schools.)

I have no real way of knowing whether or not the school is serious; they certainly have a nice web site, but so does this guy, so that doesn't really mean anything. What I can tell you is that I don't see any form of recognized accreditation listed on their web site. This could be because they're new, or it could be that they don't plan on pursuing recognized accreditation. I have no way of knowing which.

Accredited isn't the right word here -- NAICU is an association of schools and not an accrediting body. In fact I find no mention of accreditation at Trident's site. They just have two graphic links on the site to NAICU and ICHE but no mention that they are accredited. They do claim to be a member of ICHE http://www.trident.edu/main.asp?main=1&sub=1&id=1

"We are very proud of our achievements in this regard. The 2000 Technology Training Resources survey of more than 70 leading universities ranked Trident the No. 1 such University in t he US . This award was based on factors such as the quality of students and teachers, research output and financial resources. "

In addition, when checking their link to alumni, location, etc. they state:

"Oooops! We're upgrading!
In line with our name change, Trident University of Technology is performing a major upgrade of its web site. Please excuse us while we're settling in.

The page you requested should be available within 24 hours. If you continue to experience problems after this time, please note the page address (URL) and email Technical Support with this information so that we can repair the link ASAP."

What name change? Their home page also refers to their long history of academic achievement. Can't find it...


Also, check with the Middle States Association whish is the RA body for New Jersey. You will not find this school listed by MSA. It is not even on their candidate list. http://www.msache.org/dirnj.asp
I also have to ask, where did you find or how do you know about the New Jersey location because it is not posted on their web pages.

I also found it interesting that in the President's message there is no name associated with the President and he/she refer to themself as the "Director" of the university.

Yet, as a leading US university, as noted in the offshore links above, Trident doesn't seem to be making too many waves at home. Is a Trident degree a Trident missile waiting to explode?

They have some nice pictures on the web site but there are missing links and have incomplete references. For example, note their faculty listing provides a non-link listing of Schools within the university but no names of faculty appear anywhere (more of a non-US use of the word "faculty" -- describing the faculties of the universities as opposed to the US usage of listing teaching staff)

My take on this unless someelse can shed some light is that it is a bogus institution that is put together by people more connected to Australia than the U.S. The references by offshore groups of their affiliation and also the link at the Universy's site to the Australian Logistic Association (ALA)

The New Jersey connection was taken from a promotional insert in a local trade magazine. The
information was apparently put up by Trident's Asia Pacific "Center of Excellence". They offer a BBA degree program in logistics management in
Malaysia .

 

Hmmm,

Seems to be a rather new site with a number of sections missing. The site registration states it is in New Jersey and the site is operated out of Canada. It was registered in August 2001. When looking for information I found that http://www.trident-university.com uses the same hosting service. The contact email on the .com web site refers to the .edu web site & the web sites are identical. No names given!

This site states "This University is established in New Jersey, USA and was voted as the No. 1 Technological University in the United States." A number of other commercial business in Singapore and Australia name it as a "major US university".

This all seems rather suspicious to me.

Some more searching on the address in New Jersey which shows an office complex with ->http://www.hq.com/locations/center.asp?centercode=NJE010 which is a service company that provides "your company a professional address and telephone answering service". A number of businesses use the address but funny enough no Trident University found!

No phone numbers on their web site but the 800 number in their URL registration received no hits when being searched except for another business that used the same number in 1999.

This seems to be a rent-an-office set up to me.
