I am considering entering the MBA program through Trident University. Is anyone currently or formerly enrolled? I was hoping for some feedback on the program. Thanks in advance. BS/MS - CA Brick and Mortar College
Just started my first class this week. Have no other valuable information at this point, except the professor did comment on my contribution to the threaded discussion right away. I'm nervous about having to compose academic papers.....been a while since I have had to do a lot of writing. But, just wanted you to know that there was someone else who has started down that road. I completed my MS-ITM from TUI in 2004 and I am in the MBA program with 1 class left. What questions do you have?
I have a question about both ms itm and the MBA. How writing intensive? How are exams done? Can you accelerate it? Was the itm more or less writing than the MBA? Did you have to work on it every day or could you do the lions share on the weekends? I basically want a program as similar to my clep and certification experience as possible. If I know the material I can accelerate through it without getting bogged down with the mechanics of daily posting, apa formatted writing etc. These are items nobody can truly accelerate based on knowledge.
Questions I'm wondering how the program works. Weekly papers, 1 final research paper, etc. I'm waiting to hear from an advisor, but I wanted the student perspective as well. I wrote a thesis for my MS and don't know what form the final Capstone Projects take. Any information or advice you have would be appreciated.
[How writing intensive? - very - each course has 10 assignments (5 Case Studies and 5 Session Long Project papers). The Case assignments are 5-7 pages and the SLP are 2-3 pages each for a total of 35-50 pages of writing per class. How are exams done? - no exams Can you accelerate it? - yes you work at your own pace. I was doing two classes per 12 week term for my MS-ITM and I was focusing on one class at a time for the MBA and doing some in 6 weeks. Was the itm more or less writing than the MBA? - it was/is the same Did you have to work on it every day or could you do the lions share on the weekends? - I have been reading the background material during the week and writing the papers on the weekend. The more papers you write the faster you get and the first paper of the class (a new subject) is always slower then the last paper (you have a better understanding of the material). I basically want a program as similar to my clep and certification experience as possible. If I know the material I can accelerate through it without getting bogged down with the mechanics of daily posting, apa formatted writing etc. - a graduate program is all about learning new material. Do not epect to fly through it. Some topic may be easier then others but be prepared to work. Hope this helps
OK. I took four classes through Trident (at the time TUI) back in 2008 when I started on my MBA. I found they were very writing intensive, and I enjoyed them a great deal. With that said, I have a feeling that I put WAY too much effort in my writing assignments and would have been granted a good grade with mediocre work. I found an AACSB accredited school (Morehead State) that would take three transfer classes and finished up with them. Overall, I would say that it is the same as with any school, you only get back what you put into it. If you want me to compare the two schools in detail, just ask and I will do so. I will say that there is really no comparison...Morehead was much more challenging, offered much better service, and felt like I had achieved something worthwhile when I finished.
If you don't want to be bothered with this, why not go with Heriot-Watt at EBS? Just a single exam per course.
Excellent suggestion (now I am just making stuff up to say since I am 5 posts short of 5,000) :fest06:
I'm interested in the comparison on all those criteria: challenging, service and sense of value. Could you expand please?
