Let me start off by indicating a that I am a high school science instructor of 5 years with a Master's in Science Education close to completion, teaching everything from remedial to AP students. My long-term goal is to make the transition into CC teaching (full-time). I have begun to explore and talk to local CC's about adjuncting, more or less for the experience and to make sure that I really want to be teaching at this level of academia.
However, one department chair and a few other FT instructors indicated to me (really suggested) that I pursue a Ph.D. if I wanted to land a Full-time position down the line.

I am in Ontario and 15 years ago you could teach CC with an Honours degree, then it went to Masters now some want a Ph.d! The CC's material didn't change but some now offer a 4 year applied degree, as such the requirements have gone up! I have my Undergrad and I am working on my Masters now but I know I won't get a full time CC teaching job unless I get my Ph.d from somewhere.
