This is not much more relevant than snails (although less interesting, IMHO) but here's my opinion on the email question. Say that a gentlemen makes a comment about something, say a school, on a public forum which upsets another gentlemen collegue. If the upset gentlemen collegue writes the first gentlemen a letter expressing concern over the original public comment then, it is the honorable thing to do to readdress the original comment on the same public forum to try to correct any potential misunderstandings as well as to try to smooth over any concerns the upset gentlemen expressed. Doing this is showing respect, professionalism, and honorable behavior. Questions about email privacy is a red herring.
