The Newest College Admissions Ploy: Paying to Make Your Teen a “Peer-Reviewed” Author

Very interesting. The article is about parents who pay their kids for mentors who basically speherd them through the writing of a journal article, and then publish it. Sometimes in a preprint server, sometimes in a journal edited by the owner of the mentor service.

Reminds me that many (most?) kids who publish in high school have professor parents who likely play an outsized role in their ability to produce scholarly work.
