I was listening to a podcast from a Professor in Canada recently, and he commented how great it is that in 2020 you can learn almost anything from the best academics in the discipline. However, historically, there were opportunities for "second best" academics. Will these disappear? You will have a few good and lucky people at the top with other doctorates driving Uber or giving massages?
Sounds like Jordan Peterson.... Well, there is now, and will continue to be, stiff competition for academic positions. But if you're asking whether higher education will be replaced by MOOCs or whatever, then I seriously doubt it.
