    Technical degrees from Cambridge (and many other UK institutions) such as engineering (http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/engineering/index.html) or physics do not include english, arts, social studies, and similar classes. Just technical areas related to the degree topic and supporting classes such as math and computer science.
    The other non-technical areas, common to US degrees are expected to be known before entering university though high school exams.
