    Goodbye Corporate World, Hello Teaching

I am a substitute teacher now. I had interviewed for this position last August, and they offered me this job a few weeks ago. Pays a little more than the customer service job that I had. Have been subbing for over a month now and I love it! Compared to my former IT job the work is so easy that I feel that I am semi-retired even though I work 40 hours a week. Plus, I got a lot of time off. Just started my Thanksgiving break (a whole week off!). This is a novelty for me. At my old IT job I just got Thanksgiving Day off (and management would try to get us to work even on that day).

While there is a glut of regular teachers in Texas, there appears to be a serious shortage of substitute teachers. I guess that is why they hired this 60 year old. I can vary my hours each week from 16 to 40. I can choose to start receiving social security payments in 17 months. Then I can cut back on hours if I want to. I seem to have found the best type of job for my personal requirements.

just wondering, is the glut really that bad ?

can an out of state teacher with a Texas teaching licence for middle school math find work there ?

I've done some reason on moving states with teaching certifications, but most states have a type of transfer system. It depends on what your testing requirements were in Texas compared to wherever you plan on going. If it's the same or the place you're going to requires less then it may be an easy transition, however, if where you're going needs more you will have to make up the difference to be certified there. If you google the state and it's teacher license transfer system you can learn more.
